Hello,
Can anyone recommend a pub in Central London that shows racing?
Meeting a friend this evening and we’d like to watch the Newbury races..
Thanks,
AndrewJuly 3, 2008 at 17:42 #171565You’ve asked that before! I recommended the Royal Exchange on Sale Place (off Praed Street/Edgware Road); they will show ATR and RUK on separate screens. They also do very good doorstep sandwiches.

Off now, will let you know how it goes.

The Royal Exchange used to be a fantastic racing pub ~ it was owned and run until about 4 years ago by Tommy and Mary Conway who bred and raced some nice horses, including Murphy’s Cardinal. There remains a portrait of his mare, Lady Swinford on the wall behind the bar (it’s not a good portrait mind!). Also behind the bar is the wonderful incription: "This establishment is dedicated to those splendid fellows who make drinking a pleasure, who reach contentment before capacity and who, whatever they drink, can take it, hold it, enjoy it, and remain gentlemen" The walls, too, feature a series caricatures from the 80’s of trainers and jockeys as well as a number of racing prints. Since Tommy and Mary sold up, the pub hasn’t changed much, but some of the character had definitely gone with their absence.

The doorstep sandwiches have another person’s approval
