i think this website is seriously going downhill. £4.50 a week for the full package is ludicrous. thats almost as dear as the internet im using to look at the website!!!
think ill stick to sporting life/atr, unless someone can recommend a better website.
May 3, 2012 at 10:26 #402888It is a serious mess now and whereas previously it was probably the most popular on the web it is now anti-user-friendly and apart from the minority of paying members it’s user base is probably rapidly dwindling which cannot be good news for it’s advertisers.
The ATR website is the best now in my opinion but you also have the Sporting Life site and irishracing.com for the Irish cards and even this for a more general outlook http://www.racingandsports.com.au/
May 3, 2012 at 14:35 #402905It’s a Web 2.0 monstrosity. I think they’re trying to get rid of the free content on the website entirely.
Which is ridiculous as much of it is available for free elsewhere.
They’ve even made the trainers and jockeys championship stats part of the members club recently.
I’ve been registered with them for 11-12 years and it used to be a wonderful website. But i refuse to pay a fee for videos and information that are free elsewhere, and when there are regular technical difficulties with that content.
The expert panels are sometimes interesting, but the Couch and his sidekick is an abysmal feature.
Not sure who is advising them but it’s regressing.
May 3, 2012 at 20:04 #402932I too find it bizarre that they charge you for information from them that you get free on other websites yet is their content.
Strange business plan unless they are selling it the other betting websites.May 3, 2012 at 20:22 #402934Fear not, expect that RMG who are behind RUK and Racing Plus, will continue sharpening their commercial appetite.
I think they will have a rival site and proper newspaper ready in the next two years and if they want to be the tough guys, they can sink the RP quite easily.
May 4, 2012 at 03:58 #402953I hope so CS I can’t believe with the amount of sponsorship they have you can’t post a comment or look at statistics without Joining Our Club/paying.
I must say is they give you more info in form abroad and their price forecast are more accurate. The stats was always handy but now you have to pay to look at them too. They must think punters are totally stupid if they expect them to pay to watch replays or find out how may winner AP has had this year..
The free replays watched by thousands on other sites encourage punter and increase interest, charging for it is like cutting their own throat.
I much prefer the Sporting Life website while racing is on and ATR is a cracking site overall.
May 4, 2012 at 08:41 #402958I really find it difficult to understand their business plan. I recently had the basic paid subscription but have now stopped it when they upped the prices to include videos etc which are free elsewhere. Even if you are interested in their spotlights and ratings you can view them free on a bookmakers site. I think the ATR site is fantastic and has a wealth of info such as futureform, all for free.
May 4, 2012 at 09:10 #402959Apart from the awful new layout, I notice that horse pedigree information and relatives is now unavailable to non-subscribers. This was one of my favourite features, so very disappointed.

If you search the dam and then click on the "progeny sales" tab it will tell you any siblings that have gone through the sale ring. Of course this is no help for the Aga Khan, Juddmonte or other owner breeders whose produce rarely come up for sale through the ring. If the horse in question has a relative who is an active stallion, their pedigree in the "Stallion" section usually extends to the third dam. A good memory also helps!
May 4, 2012 at 11:45 #402966Thanks for the tips, Eclipse First. Much appreciated

The Racing Post website is just so hard to get around nowadays, I think I’ll stick to ATR and the Sporting Life. Racecards are better on ATR in any case.
May 4, 2012 at 12:21 #402970Don’t have a sub to the RP website myself but take on board the technical criticisms of the updated website. The RP have a history of botch job with updates but generally they do fix them with time.
Don’t agree with the criticisms of charges though. Why should they provide analysis, ratings, stats, databases etc, all at cost to themselves, for free?

Granted increasing numbers of the population live in straitened times, but £2.50 a week for access to the amount of information that the website provides is hardly unreasonable imo.
Find the
free
RP App great value (wish they’d do an iPad version).

The new Racing Post website format has just failed its first test with me.
Read on another forum that Newcastle had been abandoned on Tuesday so went on the Racing Post website to find confirmation. Couldn’t find anything about it in the current or archived news stories or the News Live section, which at first just showed "no data" (it was gone midnight and realised that it had started afresh for the new day).
Even on the going, weather and non-runners section, there was not even a mention that Newcastle had been abandoned or that it had originally been a scheduled fixture. Just this:Tuesday: Going, weather and non-runners
CATTERICK
GOING: GOOD TO SOFT (Soft in places; GoingStick: 7.1)
WEATHER (Light rain)
STALLS 7f & 2m – Centre; Remainder – InsideEXETER
GOING: SOFT (Heavy in places; GoingStick: Chase 6.2, Hurdle 6.3)
WEATHER (Showers)FAKENHAM
GOING: GOOD TO SOFT (Soft in places; GoingStick 5.9) (Hurdle and chase rail moved 18 feet all the way round)
WEATHER (Showers)PUNCHESTOWN
GOING: SOFT TO HEAVY
WEATHER (Scattered showers)At the suggestion of various posts on this thread, tried the At The Races website and soon found a lengthy article on the abandonment, along with news about the threatened meeting at Warwick.
Have now for the first time created an icon on my desktop with a link to the ATR news section.
The ATR site is, as has been pointed out, generally impressive, although the presenters section hasn’t been updated. Alex Hammond is still referred to as Alex Quinn (what on earth did she see in Richard Quinn?). Richard Pitman is still shown as a presenter, even though he has left.May 5, 2012 at 09:45 #403078Just viewed the RP Website and cant for the life of me find how to view a Racecard in Numerical order!
Now I might just be a numpty who cant work out how to get rid of the card in betting order or it might just be a ridiculous idea to now have to view each race in this format.I like to see a race from the Top weight down not how its being displayed on there!
May 5, 2012 at 09:55 #403080I would love to know who the clowns were that have changed the RP Format…………Its a joke! Why would anyone want to view a racecard without the actual Weight of the horse not being shown automatically!
You have to click in a box to request it!
Someones havin a laugh! Who cares that only 10% of whatever shows in a box next to ‘Margot Did’??
As for the comments that ‘She was Flattered’ to win the Nunthorpe! Total utter Bollox! I’m going to tweet Bruce Millington now and tell him to GET IT SORTED!!

Had a look at the Racing UK website and it seems to have a very user-friendly list of news stories, which goes on to several pages. Shame the Racing Post news service seems to be comparing so badly with this and the At The Races one.
