No pressure next week mate, just relax
February 12, 2008 at 16:00 #142567Unlucky Pru, sure that non-runner would’ve won….
Just relax again mate, it’ll happen for you
February 13, 2008 at 10:55 #142729SR does another article on Sectional timings for BF news. Surely these articles should be in the trade paper instead of his iffy tips
February 13, 2008 at 13:08 #142777How do you access that part of the BF site Charlie or Pru please?
Have the greatest respect for the man, just pulling his plonker for entertainment you understand…..February 13, 2008 at 13:22 #142782carvills its http://betting.betfair.com/horse-racing/
A good site, check out a weekly column on there by "The Assistant" and Graham Cunningham does an entertaining preview of the weekends action each Friday.
February 13, 2008 at 13:22 #142783March 4, 2008 at 16:13 #148377Holiday obviously did you good Pru, well done
March 4, 2008 at 16:40 #148381…who generally only use newspaper tipsters as a subject of general mockery.
I am glad to be of use in any little way possible…
April 8, 2008 at 09:04 #156826Just a question for you Pru:
When you’re making your selections can we assume that you think a horse is value at or near the RP forecast price? Today for instance would you still have 2 pts win Diriculous at the current 9/4, seeing as the Post put it in at 3s?April 8, 2008 at 09:15 #156831The Punting High/Punting Low feature has just got to go.
Surely no punter in the world wants to read about some fantastic value bet they weren’t told about!?
April 8, 2008 at 10:44 #156840Carvills, I don’t know what the RP forecast price is when I submit the copy. I regard part of the "job" as being able to forecast that the bet will be a bet worth having yourself.
I have been known to enquire what the industry tissue is for a big race (not many of those on Godforsaken Tuesdays) or to wait until the Betfair forecast is available if I am really not sure. I would prefer it if a minimum price were specified (about 7/4 in Diriculous’ case, imo).
Agree with tdk about the betting highs and lows, though in my case most have been identified by me elsewhere – either in my blog or in Timeform products (Ginger Princess was top-rated and is a horse I had mentioned as one to look out for in RP Tipping previously).
April 8, 2008 at 15:28 #156900I have voted ‘Good’ .. I think they give a reasonable insight into what’s-what on the day’s racing.
They will mainly pick up critisism from people who want to win others people’s cash betting, who really need to just wise up a bit.
April 11, 2008 at 07:17 #157352A couple of points
I don’t think anyone who is involved with tipping horses whether working for a newspaper or for themselves or combined with some other set up would ever give out selections that they thought might not win.Would the current crop of tipsters that the Racing Post employ work solely on the results they advise?
So a 1 point level stake profit could be worth a £100 a week and a 10 point profit could be worth a grand.
The losers came away with a note signed by Bruce Millington with the words ‘must do better! And no money.
I sometimes look to see the reasons they have selected a horse if that is one I maybe interested in but only for the actual reasons. They would never encourage me to have more money on just because they have ‘tipped’ it up.
There are a few tipsters that are worth following from the newspapers.
One is ‘Ebor’ but only when he gives the Mick Easterby horses as he is related to the family. Mark Howard mentioned this fact years ago and it works overall. The only other question is to Prufrock and that is can you post your profit/ loss situation and current strike rate since you started with the Racing Post?
April 11, 2008 at 09:19 #157367As I said earlier in the thread, I think that’s a bit unfair. When you’re tipping in the major trade paper it’s bound to affect the odds and hence reduce your profit. I find the feature useful as it gives an insight into people’s thought processes when having a bet- for example I think it was Richard Austen who flagged up that northern class 3s mightn’t be as good as southern ones.Whether the actual selections are profitable at SP doesn’t matter to me. I suspect Pru will show a profit over the year at best morning price- you can’t ask for more than that.
How did I go from giving him grief to his chief defender in the same thread….
April 11, 2008 at 10:02 #157369Agree with CH – it is a pretty thankless task tipping at SP. Prufrock has put up a few that have been good value at the best early morning price, but I’m sure he wouldn’t have wanted to be on at SP. That is the nature of the beast though.
I think Graham Cunningham deserves a mention here – not necessarily for his tipping, but his column is very amusing on a regular basis!
April 11, 2008 at 12:55 #157385Seagull, I don’t have all the figures. To the best of my knowledge I am down about 13 points over about as many weeks, which is poor.
In past incarnations I have shown a profit over a significantly longer period when running the Timeform Phone Service and when being the most active of The Four Horsemen in The Sportsman (there were only ever really two and a half of us).
Sod’s Law is that the moment you tip under your own name you hit a losing run.
April 11, 2008 at 12:57 #157387and when being the most active of The Four Horsemen in The Sportsman (there were only ever really two and a half of us).

"The Two And A Half Horsemen" – doesn’t quite have the same ring does it?
