Rather than repeat the whole post, here’s a link to my thoughts on the race:
http://www.theracingforum.co.uk/horse-racing-forum/post367011.html#p367011February 25, 2011 at 15:35 #342158Still 5 lbs below his highest as a novice chaser, Gaz’s, after being beaten a shd by Follow The Plan in the Grade 1 Durkan Homes Chase, returning a speed figure of 141.
In his previous race, a Grade 2 at Cheltenham, he beat Straw Bear – admittedly disappointing as a chaser, but before he deteriorated – by 24 lengths, returning a speed figure of 153.
In this race, he’s up there with the fastest speed-figure horses, though achieved in higher class races.
February 25, 2011 at 15:37 #342159I think
Hey Big Spender
is over priced. Jumped well early last season before falling at the Festival. Then lost confidence, did not jump too well when winning on reappearance. Went to Newbury for the Hennessey and tried to make all. Did not stay, rider perhaps too forceful took a crashing fall, out on his feat. Not long afterwards ran at Cheltenham, but remembered his unfortunate experience, never jumping. Seemingly back better than ever at Warwick last time out, putting in a good round when held up. Should stay this trip around here. Could well be able to fulfil the potential shown before March last year. Worth a chance at 14/1 on betfair.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 25, 2011 at 20:21 #342194Rain now forecast overnight and into the morning – will that soften it up enough to enhance Razor Royale’s chances? And maybe scupper Nacarat’s chance?

I’ve backed
Sagalyrique
(12/1) and
Ringaroses
(25/1) to supplement my ante-post interest in Nacarat; Tom George’s horses are running too poorly to leave the admirable grey as my only selection.
February 26, 2011 at 11:52 #342289I had to have a little on Ringaroses, too. He’s supposed to be a poor jumper, but they wouldn’t run him in it for fun, and he has a nice weight with the claimer, too.
February 26, 2011 at 12:12 #342296Razor Royale ew for me – treated much the same as last year and can probably be forgiven two indifferent runs this season – as not sure he really stays any more than 3m.
February 26, 2011 at 12:32 #342303I have been burned following Fistral Beach before but will go again today and I think it is maybe the moment for it to repay us loyal followers!
Nicholls seems to think it is on a fair mark and he does not often say that. I think they have often expected a big run from this horse and the breathing op may have done the job as it does for so many at Ditcheat.
Bakbenscher would be a good bet too in the conditions but
I think in a race of this quality his jumping needs to be top notch and I’m not sure it will be.The other threat for me, is Nacarat – The quality is in the form book and it is fairly kindly treated on previous RP Chase runs – I don’t think that soft would be too much an inconvinence, I think sticky is what we will get though and on top weight, I prefer Fistral Beach.
This is it though Fistral, repay me today or we part company for ever!
February 26, 2011 at 13:10 #342313Sam Twiston-Davies takes 3lb off the back of last years winner
Razor Royale
. The conditions will suit and this inconsistent sort is ‘due’ a win. Nigel Twiston-Davies appears quite bullish about his chances.
Took 14s this morning.
February 26, 2011 at 15:40 #342337Backed Quinz at 8’s and Nacarat at 6’s, so a very nice return for me
February 26, 2011 at 16:24 #342347Standard of jumping pretty poor there.
Hope Quinz does not go gor the National this year, not ready for it yet. Possibly the Stewart Family Handicap Chase is a more realistic target, if fully recovered. Mount Oscar might have won without a bad mistake before the home turn. Although the winner was idling a touch. Nacarat ran his race.
Don’t know if Hey Big Spender was hampered at the first, or made his own mistake. Did not jump well enough after that, ran well considering.
Bakbensher jumped badly, I always think poor leppers jump better when allowed some room, might do better racing wide with a better view of the fences.
Looked as if Andrew Thornton took it a lot easier in the closing stages than some others going for fourth; though did not drop his hands.Value Is EverythingFebruary 26, 2011 at 19:41 #342367i had nacarat, wanted it to be another big race win for a grey, as they seem to be dominating the big races this season though not to be, he ran a good race to be 3rd

February 27, 2011 at 12:05 #342441I’d agree with that Ginger. Was on him yesterday, and bet a few quid on him for the national in the lead up to this, in the view to lay off. (apologies for the aftertiming) Has worked out well, but despite still having a few quid lying on him for the National, I don’t like the thought of novices going that route, hopefully, as you’ve said, he’ll either go to Cheltenham, or be given a rest.
February 28, 2011 at 11:46 #342610I backed Razor Royal at 16s and Nacarat at 7s. The ground was in between for both horses, needed to be softer for Razor Royal and firmer for Nacarat, both ran very well though, pleased with them.
