I don’t know how many on here listen to racing podcasts but I have listened to them for a good while and there are some good ones out there. I just wondered if there are any you would recommend or avoid.
I used to like the Final Furlong podcast but Emmet Kennedy is so sycophnatic I can no loger listen, plus he goes on and on about rubbish and I am sick of him pushing the Tote every second he gets.
I think any podcast over 1 hour is to long.
I find the Paddy Power one very good especially if Ruby is on and the Betfair one with Kevin Blake is also good.
Nick Luke is good too.
Any others to recommend from anyone.February 24, 2021 at 22:37 #1525245I have started to listen to the Betfair Weighed In podcast with Kevin Blake and 2 others and I enjoy it.
February 25, 2021 at 14:05 #1525303I still haven’t heard one that I could tolerate. An hour of Emmet Kennedy or Nick Luck or Tony Calvin is more than enough to make me want to put a rusty spike through my ears.
February 25, 2021 at 20:38 #1525396If you can stick Emmet for an hour you have done well
February 26, 2021 at 12:14 #1525447The most annoying thing about racing podcasts, and they all do it, is when they mumble the name of a horse, then talk about ‘it’ for the next six minutes without mentioning it’s name again. So, if you missed the mumble, you are left trying to work out what horse they are on about!
Emmet likes the sound of his own cliches too much. The two women he has on FFP are dull as you like, though I suspect they are pretty which is why they are on.
I do like Rory Delargy.
The Betfair one. Blake is so self-important. Calvin makes it interesting sometimes, though clearly likes to be controversial for the sake of it. The host (Cahill) is Captain Obvious. Of course, they select the horse they have heard of when they are forced to look at lower-grade cards, which reveals their lack of interest in anything but Grade 1s. I mean, they all tipped Singlefarmpayment earlier this season – I can’t take their takes on handicaps that seriously after that. (I do like Barber though, doesn’t seem to have an agenda unlike the others there, and often discusses the more interesting horses in a race than the favourite).
I enjoy that, on whatever podcast you listen to, that the groupthink believe that Willie Mullins’ odds-on shot might win in a small-runner Irish graded hurdle. And talk about that one horse for 15 minutes, telling you all the things they told you about it last time they talked about it. You can’t get that sort of insight anywhere else!
February 26, 2021 at 21:24 #1525516Well summed up QF.
I do like the Paddy Power one with Ruby on. However he does not do it every week. He says it as it is and doesn’t talk balls like a lot of them do.
He always gives a good insight into Willie’s runners but only if asked. However if he gives one of Mullins as his best bet they generally win although tend to be short.
He says Micro mangage will win Sunday. We will see.February 27, 2021 at 17:55 #1525693I look forward to all the Festival preview podcasts taking fifteen minutes to explain that Envoi Allen is good, shortly.
March 5, 2021 at 13:30 #1527198On today’s Final Furlong, Emmet describes, in huge detail, his love for his grandad’s deceased old dog. For a couple of minutes. Self-indulgent and then some. OK, it’s his podcast.
He then drones on about Elliott for the next 25 minutes. It feels like hours. Days.
I like the show, as a whole, but it’s difficult to defend it at times. I certainly don’t tune in to listen to Emmet trying to win a competition for being the most upset by the photo than anyone in the world. By going on and on and on and…
I wish he’d put some time-stamps in the descriptions, so that users know when any specific subject is being talked about. Many podcasts do that. I suspect Emmet doesn’t because he doesn’t want people skipping over the dull bits, which are mainly his.
If his pod didn’t include Rory I don’t think I’d listen to the Cheltenham previews, which will be Emmet talking about Lucky 63s, fancying Mullins’ favourites to win and then being ‘out there’ by fancying every Pipe handicapper to show he follows the UK game too.
March 5, 2021 at 20:19 #1527316I agree QF. How many times does ne promote the Tote too. It can be minutes sometimes. He just drones on.
March 6, 2021 at 11:03 #1527518Horse racing heroes is one of the best horse racing ones Ive heard, all the episodes are good but Brendan Duke’s interview is one I could listen to again

March 8, 2021 at 16:34 #1528107I love it when they talk about a horse where they don’t mention it’s name for minutes whilst discussing it’s history or handicap mark, and then don’t end the discussion by saying what the horse’s name is at the end, meaning you have to go back to try to find what animal they are talking about.
Blake whittles on for two minutes about Column of Fire today, but he didn’t mention the horse’s name once.
Come on lads, mention a horse’s name at least once, and then at the end of the discussion, at least!
March 8, 2021 at 16:40 #1528108Hugh mention it’s name literally before Kev started talking about the horse. 15:18 to be exact, i’ve just re-listened.
March 17, 2021 at 10:18 #1530211I can’t see it listed on here, but my favourite by far is the On The Hunt Podcast. The lads on there know their stuff when it comes to jumps racing and it’s the right mix of banter, insight and knowledge. I especially like the “anything else” segment at the end. You get some great shouts on there, especially from Ryan.
March 17, 2021 at 10:27 #1530214I like most of the podcasts. Best two guests for me are Rory delargy and Declan Rix. Both hugely knowledgable without being preachy. Not keen on ruby and Lydia as I find them a tough listen although Lydia’s enthusiasm shines through.
March 17, 2021 at 10:43 #1530220Gamble responsibly, Cahill contractually-obliges at the end of a podcast where Calvin admits: “I haven’t looked at (the cross-country) in any depth. I don’t really bet in these races. Not my bag.”
Only then to state that he has put £20 e/w on a 66/1 shot.
I enjoy the Betfair one (I like Dan Barber), but sometimes these guys should remember that offering a tip isn’t compulsory. Suggesting that £40 is a throwaway bet is not very “responsible” if you ask me.
March 17, 2021 at 23:53 #1530527Worth mentioning the Sporting Life podcast. Good place to hear Delargy’s thoughts without having to skip through Kennedy. Although sometimes you end up with C. Lysaught. Swings and roundabouts.

March 19, 2021 at 12:24 #153098412.22 on Friday, and the Final Furlong’s Day 4 pod isnt available on Spotify, soundcloud, Podbean (the app I use) or seemingly anywhere (no mention on their twitter feed).
No doubt it’ll be uploaded now with 90 minutes’ worth of chat for us to digest before the first race in…86 minutes’ time.
