I still have a dozen Irish courses to see off – maybe a challenge for 2013?
Ahem:
http://www.pointtopoint.co.uk/go/courses/

Mollington on Bank Holiday Monday took my personal tally of Pointing courses visited to 70 active and four defunct ones. Just the 44 left to do, then…
(NB the PtPRC total of 116 active courses is two too large, strictly speaking, as neither Alpraham nor Erw Lon are actually in use at present. The latter may revive, the former probably not).

August 7, 2012 at 06:01 #409127Looks like I’ve got to try and squeeze in a trip to Folkestone before the end of the year.
Already done Hereford (albeit 20 years ago!)
September 11, 2012 at 13:18 #412791Add Thirsk to my list, ticked off last Saturday.
Nice country track, decent faciltites and viewing, big crowd for Ladies Day, good atmosphere.

November 20, 2012 at 19:43 #420408Folkestone done today before the Reubens turn it into a housing estate.
£17 to get in is steep for the standard of racing (only paid £26 for Champions Day) but found it a nice friendly little track and I’m now quite sad to see it go.
My three year old boy enjoyed playing in the mud on the lawns!

I still think the most attractive part of the course is behind the stands – the pond and the parade ring.
The stands themselves, especially the old members stand, could be improved with some Semtex!!!!

It certainly is. I’ve found Folkestone a lovely little course on the occasions I have visited and have really enjoyed it, especially the goldfish pond area.
It’s a good, compact, attractive little course. The fare may be moderate but I liked everything about it, including in the old days, when I used to arrive at the very convenient Westenhanger railway station adjoining the course.
It’s a great shame the course is closing. I don’t suppose anything will come of the vague possibility that it might reopen as part of a deal over development permissions.
It’s a pity more people haven’t supported the course over the years, as we have said before, but perhaps the course’s potential value for housing and other development would eventually have done for it anyway.
June 4, 2014 at 12:30 #481111Bump. Updated personal list now reads;
RULES
All 61 EXCEPT FOR Brighton, Chester, Epsom, Great Leighs, Hamilton, Musselburgh, Newcastle, Newmarket Rowley, Salisbury and Yarmouth. Salisbury’s on the agenda at the end of this month, though.
The visits to Windsor and Wolverhampton included both Flat and jumps meetings(including the latter’s sole venture into the world of jumpers’ bumpers to date), but I never got to a Nottingham jumps fixture, alas.
Still need to do a Flat meeting at Ascot, Ayr, Carlisle, Catterick, Chepstow, Ffos Las, Haydock, Newbury and Warwick, having only ever attended jumps meetings at these.
POINT-TO-POINTS (includes some courses currently defunct)
Alnwick, Alpraham, Ampton, Andoversford, Ashorne, Aspatria, Badbury Rings, Balcormo Mains, Bangor-on-Dee PTP, Barbury Racecourse, Bishops Court, Bitterley, Black Forest Lodge, Bonvilston, Brafield-on-the-Green, Brampton Bryan, Bratton Down, Bredwardine, Brocklesby Park, Buckfastleigh, Catsfield, Chaddesley Corbett, Charing, Charlton Horethorne, Charm Park, Chipley Park, Clifton-on-Dunsmore, Cocklebarrow, Cold Harbour, Corbridge, Cothelstone, Cottenham, Dalton Park, Didmarton, Dingley, Duncombe Park, Dunthrop, Easingwold, Eaton Hall, Eyton-on-Severn, Flagg Moor, Friars Haugh, Garnons, Garthorpe, Godstone, Guilsborough, Hackwood Park, Hereford PTP, Heslaker, Hexham PTP, Higham, High Easter, Hornby Castle, Horseheath, Howick, Hutton Rudby, Kimble, Kingston Blount, Laleston, Larkhill, Littlewindsor, Llanvapley, Lower Machen, Maisemore Park, Marks Tey, Milborne St Andrew, Mollington, Mordon, Mosshouses, North Carlton, Overton, Parham, Peper Harow, Sandon, Sheriff Hutton, Siddington, Ston Easton, Tabley, Thorpe Lodge, Tweseldown, Umberleigh, Upper Sapey, Upton-on-Severn, Wadebridge, Welbeck, Whitcliffe Grange, Whitfield, Whittington, Whitwell-on-the-Hill, Whitwick Manor, Witton Castle, Woodford and Ystradowen.
Only 24 active Pointing courses left to visit, if I’ve done my maths right; though most of them race just once a year, usually on a Bank Holiday when I’m required closer to home, so heaven knows if I’ll ever get to those. Meh.

June 4, 2014 at 13:58 #481114Remember our Racing Club meet up at Market Rasen? We had one at Ludlow recently and also a mini meet up at Kelso. Heard that our secretary was going there as the northern tracks had been missed out of his ‘visit ever track in the country’ campaign. Good job we knew as we’d’ve had such a shock bumping into him!
June 4, 2014 at 16:16 #481125I do remember indeed, Moe – a splendid afternoon in the pale November Lincolnshire sunshine. We’ll always have Rasen…
