Could anyone enlighten me about the role of Race Makers at the big meetings? I always thought that they were there to advise racegoers/punters where to find parts of the racecourse, how a meeting is run, how to place a bet etc.
From what I’ve seen at York, admittedly on TV, a lot of the Race Makers seem to just stand in the parade ring/winners enclosure trying to get a piece of the limelight. Surely no-one in these areas needed their services or am I missing something?
