Minefield of a race, and definitely one where I’m not getting suckered into an Antepost. That’s a promise I don’t always keep, but at this stage, I can’t see me having a go.
There’s a trio I like though, of…
A Great View
Freedom To Dream
KoshariA Great View appeals as he slips down the weights after his win at Punchestown, while Koshari, if retaining enough ability, has a chance off current mark, even allowing for top weight.
Freedom to Dream a horse I’ve been hoping to see back over timber, and must have a chance on his fourth to Banbridge in The Martin Pipe. His owner Bayoffreedom often pops in here, and would be good, obviously, to hear his thoughts.
It’ll be two from that trio for me hopefully, but for now, no bet.
Edit Final Decs
Too busy a weekend, so got to cut a few, leaving me with one here.
I’ll watch A Great View in running, but sticking with Freedom to Dream as my only bet.
Freedom To Dream 20’s EW 5 Pls
January 31, 2023 at 23:48 #16331811/8 aged 9 or above
7/8 carried 10-13 or below
7/8 starting price 8/1 or below
6/8 claiming jockey in 1st 4
5/8 won ltoJust the 8 runnings on the RP website of this Grade B staying handicap hurdle.
Quite a strong stat re weight carried in previous renewals,Oscar Sam lumped 11-10 to victory in 2017,off a mark of 131,surprisingly he also posted the fastest time,on ground described as “good”.
Every other winner has carried below 10-13,a quick glance at the finnishing times compared to standard, make for interesting viewing. The standard time is 5m 39 secs,Oscar Sam recorded 5m 51.90,some 12 secs outside standard, nothing else has broken 6 minutes. That evidence alone suggests for whatever reason, this 3 miles in february takes some getting.
Koshari might be a key player, without him weights set to go up 6lb,possibly bringing a few lower down into the handicap proper.
Freedom To Dream has that “Fahey” look about him I agree,Takarengo has not been disgraced stepped up,he remains unexposed at this sort of trip.
Hardy Bloke at the bottom is set to carry 9-04 before final decs,he has a point run behind Tahmuras thats reads well in this type of company, another dark one to ponder.
Lets hope plenty stand their ground, always an informative race at this point in the season.
February 1, 2023 at 23:57 #1633279Freedom to dream for me. Perceval Levallois is the pertemps winner and depending on what the English handicapper gives him he may not need to win here.
February 3, 2023 at 20:05 #1633549Couldn’t resist to bet Maxxum. Obviously a strong and big field, but his last win was one the easiest handicap wins ever. With a claimer riding he is ‘only’ gone up 11 pounds.
Maxxum 3/1
February 3, 2023 at 21:43 #1633564I get the feeling Grozni will go close in this. Ground fine and back up in trip to suit. CB likes to get a winner at this meeting and he has two runners.
Was also going to be in the Freedom To Dream camp, but missed the price and i’ll swerve 12/1.
