Love this race.
Value Is EverythingJune 15, 2022 at 00:15 #1602123Fav Eldar Eldorov has obvious potential to improve but have missed the price. He’s also yet to run on a firmish surface (admittedly from only two starts) and is by softer ground influence Dubawi.
Nahaani probably has the best form, likely to improve at the trip if recovered from his run in the Derby (seemed frightened by the fireworks) and better than position suggests. At 6/1 could run below form and still be placed. Unraced on good-firm but is by Frankel. Could do with him getting a good start this time though. 6/1 imo well worth taking each way.
…As is 10.5/1 about stable companion Halfit. Disappointed a little only start on a soft surface at odds-on in France last time out. First time cheek pieces a bit of a worry. Seemed straightforward enough when making the running in three horse race penultimate start, close second to stablemate the enigmatic Walk Of Stars at 10 furlongs. Officially the best rated horse in this field and although by Dubawi is out of a Galileo mare and any horse that stays 1m2f well at two (beaten in a photo in Zetland Stakes) should stay this trip.
The other one I’ve backed is Baltic Bird @ 12/1. Got something to find on form, only a Yarmouth maiden to his name but looks crying out for a staying trip. Gosdens usually have a good team of staying three year olds and this is presumably their best.
Value Is EverythingJune 15, 2022 at 11:46 #1602179I’m on Anchorage ew, purely because of connections. Ballydoyle have only been out of the 3 places once in the past ten years- in Stradivarius’ year, when the AOB horse missed out on third by a head. Most firms are giving 4 places ew today. You have to go back to 2005 (when it was run at York) for a running when Ballydoyle were out of the 4.
June 15, 2022 at 13:11 #1602204You could also say that AOB has never in that time been as short on 3yo+ talent as this year, Green’.
Value Is EverythingJune 15, 2022 at 13:13 #1602205Can’t let my Emotion go @ a massive 37/1 ew.

So did I, Ginge… until they reduced the distance. 😡
June 15, 2022 at 13:40 #1602210Since the drop in trip and elevation to Group class the average quality of the race has gone up significantly, Glad. Three of the five winners have gone on to Group 1 success/s, Stradivarius, Kew Gardens and Irish Derby winner Santiago. Last year’s second Wordsworth also second and third in Group 1’s.
When it was 2 miles fewer horses seemed to go on afterwards. Arguably 2m is too far for quality three year olds this early in the season. 1m6f+ is still a staying race.

Very true and also, as you point out, it didn’t used to be as competitive or good quality a race either so my Ballydoyle musings are a bit shaky.
June 15, 2022 at 14:49 #1602226Am sure some of AOB’s will run well, Green’.
Value Is EverythingJune 15, 2022 at 14:50 #1602227I had a less than life-changing bet on Emotion at 44 last night.

Hoping the ground is alright for him.June 15, 2022 at 15:04 #1602230I was going to side with Anchorage, but he’s not really progressed as I’d hoped, so my sensible money is on Eldar Eldorov. I have also bet Emotion 25-1 ew with 5 places on offer
June 15, 2022 at 15:12 #1602232Get in!
