Unless Big Rock makes it too strong a pace I can see Hayes and Hollie giving Paddington too much ground to make up on that going.

Moore will need to keep Paddington handy , Welds horse might not love the ground but she’s classy , I’ve not played either but I think she’ll beat Paddington , fingers crossed for Angel Bleu , he loves getting his hoof in

Most looked beaten way out. The jockey read the previous races well.

Not sure it would have mattered what kind of lead he got, on that ground he was far and away the best – a lot of them looked like they were being held together a long way out and when asked found less than nothing.

What a great visual for Champions Day – a mile race with the field strung out all over Berkshire.

Got positional advantage, goes on the ground and stays further than today’s trip (has stamina for these conditions too).

I said O’Brien had possibly ruined Paddington after the Juddmonte and that looks the case now.

Ta green. Wd FF Mike and silver spoon who mentioned him early on in the chat.

The only race I could envisage what happened but didn’t have the knackers to go in hard.
Really not great viewing though, how is this meeting supposed to attract punters? I rarely get heavily involved myself

It’s only one poor run on heavy ground for Paddington, GM.
Form of the International is good.

The winner was obviously very good and was given a confident ride but you have to be wary about wide margin winners on very soft ground.

None of the other jockeys did anything wrong. Nothing was going to live with the winner on that ground. If they tried to they would almost certainly have been beaten by further.

I wish I had laid Paddington for as much as I could. After the season he has had, it would have taken a huge effort to beat that field on poor ground.

A fast as Big Rock went, the overall time was still nearly 6sec slow – a soft ground time for him but heavy for the rest, also helps that he stays 10½F and has won on heavy too (beating Horizon Dore).

Paddington beat today’s runner up 1½L at Goodwood on soft ground (time that day was 10sec slow) so while he clearly can deal with deep going (he won on heavy first time out this year on 26 March), I think the bigger issue was that they had gone to the well once too often by the time York rolled around. Having a break was obviously the correct move then…..but coming back off a break to run in these conditions was a massive ask and was going to find out any fitness issues (same for Chaldean) and it would now appear that his earlier exploits may have taken more of a toll on him then connections first thought.
