Checking back through the first 4 day’s results, and specifically the 2m+ races, I noticed an interesting trend with regards to the sires of the winning and placed horses. Two sires have dominated in these races and they are GALILEO and SINGSPIEL, check the following –
Ascot Stakes 2m4f
1st – JUNIOR – Sired by Singspiel
2nd – ELYAADI – Sired by SingspielGold Cup 2m4f
2nd – AGE OF AQUARIAS – Sired by Galileo
3rd – PURPLE MOON – Sired by GalileoQueen’s Vase
1st – MIKHAIL GLINKA – Sired by Galileo
2nd – THEOLOGY – Sired by GalileoI would say that is pretty compelling evidence that any horses sired by either GALILEO or SINGSPIEL should warrant respect in any races run over 2m+ at Ascot. They hold an entry each in today’s Queen Alexandra Stakes (run over 2m5f), SWINGKEEL (Singspiel) and STARFALA (Galileo); can they keep the impressive record going?
June 26, 2010 at 23:01 #303296Mikhail Glinka started favourite for the Ballysax run over a mile and two on good to firm ground at Leopardstown way back in April. That was a derby trial. He came out of the race with a minor injury and was very unlucky in running or he would have won.His next race was at Ascot over 2 miles in June.Is he that versatile or what? Now people are talking about the St.Leger.Hard to know what to make of it?No more Derby distance for him?
