Thomas Hobson is a short priced favourite, but I want to take him on. I know he came here after the Ascot Stakes last year, but does he truly stay this trip?
Count Octave is a quirky sort but has plenty of ability and runs as if stamina is his forte. Can’t back Pallisator with any confidence – can ruin his chance before the start. One that stays longer than the proverbial is Nearly Caught. I had the winner of this last year with an old timer and he could easily surprise a few; especially if given a prominent position and making it a real test.
I’ve had each way bets on Count Octave and Nearly Caught.
Value Is EverythingJune 23, 2018 at 02:29 #1358122I’ve played the favourite at 6/4.
I don’t think it’s a great race and he’s got his ground. I’d have him evens so have backed him in the lucky last.
June 23, 2018 at 03:02 #1358128This is rarely a good quality race, MOM. However, judged purely on previous years Timeform ratings… They have six of today’s field as capable of showing form good enough to win an average renewal (ratings of the last 5 winning performances added up and divided by 5). You might be right, personally I doubt many will be able to show it but on paper it looks an above average renewal this year.
Value Is EverythingJune 23, 2018 at 08:19 #1358151I’d want 2’s to back Tommy H, so going to take him on with Count Octave.
June 23, 2018 at 10:01 #1358183I’ve stamina concerns about Count Octave
Little to justify backing Glencadam GloryI’ll have an each way on Templestatefloresco, who might be a Caracciola type and give his connections some fun as a veteran. Conditions won’t be a problem and I can’t say the same for about half the other runners.
June 23, 2018 at 11:00 #1358203I agree with Ginge on Nearly Caught but also would Hughie’s other one Fun Mac both each way four places.
Good Luck Guys

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!June 23, 2018 at 14:22 #1358273Pallasator looks to have improved since going to Gordon and he won’t have come over here short. Guaranteed to stay unlike a few of these (Count Octave especially) and looks a fair e/w price.
June 23, 2018 at 17:32 #1358339I think that Thomas Hobson is a good thing. I’m not a favourite backer
but having had a fair bit back this afternoon I’ve had a punt on him at 5/4. I also
think that Light Pillar at 20/1 could be worth an e/w saver.
He was quite decent in France and although stamina would have to be taken on trust I’m
hoping that O’Brien jr has been working on him for this. Those are my last Royal Ascot
bets, it’s been a bit exhausting working my way through them over the past five days, but
it’s been bloody good, and I’m up at the end of it all, so that’s a bonusJune 23, 2018 at 17:55 #1358341A well, so much for my “good thing”. At least I had my e/w on Light Pillar 4 places, so
no great harm done. I suppose it was a pointer in itself that Gordon Elliot sent Pallasator
over. Very well pointed out KevJune 23, 2018 at 17:58 #1358343Pallasator looks to have improved since going to Gordon and he won’t have come over here short. Guaranteed to stay unlike a few of these (Count Octave especially) and looks a fair e/w price.
Nice winner Kev, well done. Pallasator settled and was always going well, not showing any of his usual antics either (up until swerving with the race already won). Spencer one of the best with these types. Count Octave ran well – career best effort – just beaten by a better horse. Thomas didn’t settle, unsuited by the slow pace.
