Just so long as it stays soft it has to be Wizz Kid in this for me. She absolutely mopped up the soggy conditions on Arc day and tore the Abbaye apart, albeit only by a neck but with a lot in hand. By the looks of things the more rain the better for her, and to beat Mayson in those conditions took some doing. Quite surprised she isn’t favourite to be honest, and I reckon the 7/2 about her right now represents more value than first appears.

She’s never won over 6F though and Society Rock if running to the level of Haydock will prevail in my opinion. The tardy start appears to have been resolved and he goes well at Ascot and is a better horse with cut.
Should be a good battle between the two.October 18, 2012 at 10:49 #417158She’s never won over 6F though and Society Rock if running to the level of Haydock will prevail in my opinion. The tardy start appears to have been resolved and he goes well at Ascot and is a better horse with cut.
Should be a good battle between the two.True though that may be, she’s never shown any reason why she wouldn’t win over 6f, and she’s bound to break that duck eventually. With the going changing as I speak, to soft, heavy in places, it sounds as though she’ll get her conditions. In the mud I think she’s the best horse in the race by a fair distance.
October 18, 2012 at 11:08 #417162These sprints are always a tad tricky but the obvious candidates are Whizz Kid and Society Rock but the 3yo Slade Power is an interesting runner. He has won on soft and is relatively unexposed and on his last start had Gordon Lord Byron behind him though that that horse has improved since.
October 18, 2012 at 11:35 #417167Restiadargent has not yet had her favoured conditions this season. She ran a fine race over course and distance at the Royal Meeting and at the current odds of 14/1 makes more appeal than Society Rock who hasn’t won two races on the bounce since his 2yo days.
October 18, 2012 at 20:24 #417241Slade Power is a progressive sprinter who Eddie Lynam holds in high regard, he has winning form on soft when he had Gordon Lord Byron behind who has since gone on to run some excellent races this season, at 8/1 he looks better value than Society Rock or Wizz Kid.
Either of the two market leaders could potentially win of course but bothlook a little short in the betting for a race that looks fairly open.

has been a model of consistency, starting off the year on a mark of 97 and progressing to a Group3 triumph.
He beat Gordon Lord Byron at the start of the season and had July Cup winner Mayson behind when winning at Newcastle. The winner of a competitive handicap at Newmarket, he subsequently beat Starspangledbanner and Fire Lily in the Renaissance Stakes before a fine third in the Ayr Gold Cup off a massive weight.
This gelding thrives in testing conditions and performed well at this track when sixth in the Wokingham. I get the feeling there is a little bit more to come, and in a division where consistency is a rare commodity I can see him making the frame.
One who should not be underestimated is
Royal Rock
. He is another who thrives in soft ground and saves his best for this time of year.
He peaked at this stage last season when landing the Bengough Stakes over course and distance for the second time and finished his campaign with a highly creditable fourth in this contest.
This gelding also appears at his best granted a strong pace, which is what you generally expect at the highest level in sprinting contests.
October 19, 2012 at 16:37 #417360Restiadargent is extremely inconsistent but if she reproduces her Ascot run she’ll blow these away. Good price
October 20, 2012 at 13:09 #417556I think Maarek is best in big fields. The first two in the betting are too short for me, apparently Wizz kid travels poorly on occasion and Society Rock may get away slowly. I can’t fathom why Sirius Prospect is as short as 10/1 given a poor season and I’m not sure Slade Power can make the jump from listed company. Restiadargent is passed over because she is without a win this year and a chance is taken on The Cheka each-way at 18/1, more in hope than expectation for a bit of fun.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
October 20, 2012 at 13:11 #417557French 1-2 for me.
