THE SILENCE IS DEAFENING.

There really isn’t much to say, as it looks a gift for RVW at the moment.
September 21, 2009 at 21:16 #249572Would have been a very interesting race if Goldikova had been left in. Think she might have just had the measure of Rip. With a bit of improvement, perhaps Delegator and Aqlaam will give Ballydoyle a run for their money?
I’m going to be there on sat, first time at Ascot. Looking forward to seeing Rip, and also some top class 2yo action.

I can’t see Delegator (or indeed Aqlaam) improving enough to trouble Rip Van Winkle.
The one horse I am looking forward to seeing is Waseet of Ed Dunlop’s in the Royal Lodge.
September 22, 2009 at 19:16 #249688I’m pretty sweet on RVW. Hopefully they hold him up a bit so he dosen’t take over the pacemaker from too far out. Godolphin are bang in form, so Delegator has a good chance aswell, and has a fine turn. I really like RVW though, having backed him for the BC, so it wouldn’t make sense backing against him. I’m standing firm in the Rip Van camp !!!
September 22, 2009 at 19:55 #249694I’ve been a fan of
Aqlaam
ever since his run behind Goldikova in the Marois (not very long, I know) and so long as the ground doesn’t ease before Saturday, will back him heavily e/w with supreme confidence. The horse made a big impression on me that day.
With a searching gallop guaranteed, I expect him to finish alot closer than people think – the horse is crying out for 10 furlongs on what I’ve seen. If he fails, I’ll expect him to at least be doing his best work at the finish before hopefully taking his place in the Champion stakes field.
84-1 on BF will look very nice indeed come twenty past four on Saturday, I reckon.
September 23, 2009 at 03:02 #249779Disappointing to see Goldikova go for the Foret rather than this, always wanted to see her battle Rip Van Winkle to see who the best miler really is, maybe last year put him off after Tamayuz flopping huge.
It would be nice to see Delegator make a race of it.
September 24, 2009 at 05:16 #249883If both horses were in neutral hands it would be safe to declare RVW the superior of the two.
Aidan O’Brien has won 3 from his past 31 runners whilst Godolphin are undeniably flying. I think the form of both yards brings Delegator within range of toppling the favourite.
But, comparing times of both the Sussex and Celebration Mile + a line of form through Lord Shanakill suggests otherwise.
No bet for me.

Imo, this is bound to be a strongly run race as RVW needs it to be at his best over this distance. This mitigates against Delegator, whose lto win does nothing to alter the view that he’d be better at 7f, and I’d see a fairly strong case for Aqlaam to finish 2nd.
Though his overall form wouldn’t be as good as Delegator’s (Goldikova did beat him pointless), the stiff track and strong pace should see him past the 2nd fav in the closing stages for what should be a comfortable 2nd place.September 24, 2009 at 18:07 #249920Imo, this is bound to be a strongly run race as RVW needs it to be at his best over this distance. Interestingly though, MCM now takes his place in the line up.
September 24, 2009 at 18:39 #249924Aidan says he won’t but he (MCM) is the one to make it a strong pace over the full mile and take the sting out of Delegator in the final furlong. The question is can RVW catch him ? I say yes.
September 24, 2009 at 18:50 #249927Not one pacemaker???Hmm Interesting.
Now Dettori can’t cry to the press like he did with Geroge Washington famous win at the track if he where to lose.
There is enough pace with Aqlaam i suppose and Rip just sitting in behind or Rip just goes on if the pace is muddling. But Rip has the best turn of foot and is the best stayer in the race with the best form. Should be a pretty straightfoward race to win provinding the horse is all well
September 24, 2009 at 20:02 #249937Why was I under the impression that Mastercraftsman wasn’t running?
. Suddenly the race looks more interesting.
September 24, 2009 at 21:32 #249948I could give you the obvious answer but there must be a better one so i won’t.

We are assured MCM only runs if RVW doesn’t.
Strange move not to run a pacemaker for RVW, though given that he forced the pace from a long way out at Goodwood and the stiffer Ascot should see him in an even better light, the race has all the signs of becoming a procession anyway.September 24, 2009 at 23:02 #249970AnonymousInactive- Total Posts 17716
Don’t think it matters the same as it has in the other races involving Sea the Stars……..last time for all Malibu Bay did he would have as well not being there.
Rip was in front a long way out last time and will be happy enough bowling along in front. Delegator has a turn of foot and normaly that would suit but not against this horse.
