I watched this race and Dettori run a bad race on Stradivarius, he should of led to stretch Antony Van Dyke but followed him. These French jockeys are very clever. The time of the race was very slow compared to the previous races and with the hot weather and heat from sun the ground was drying. I can’t see Stradivarius winning the arc unless the going is very soft and stamina comes into play. I will not take a bet on him until I know the going.
September 13, 2020 at 23:51 #1501476Unusual for Frankie to make such an error Mike and I think AVD could have won that on merit. He was only 2 lengths behind Ghaiyyath at Newmarket with Stradivarius a further 2 lengths or so behind him so maybe the years are telling or it’s just that time of year when the early season form starts to fade and the less raced and younger horses begin to assert.
Three top horses beaten in the last
week and Enable just stretching her legs in the September Stakes at this rate it could be looking good for Love in the Arc or even a surprise win from Japan currently 33/1 if the going is soft. Magical certainly put Ghaiyyath in his place what a supermare she is but that was a tough race and she could take a while to recover so she’s not for me in the Arc more like the Champion Stakes a few weeks later.Interesting thoughts though.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...September 14, 2020 at 02:03 #1501479I would think frankie didnt want to give stradivarius a hard race with 3 weeks till the arc
They went very slow and he did well to finish second
In a stronger run race I would be fairly sure he’d have beaten them fairly easily
I cant see him winning the arc but wouldn’t be surprised if he picked up a place
September 14, 2020 at 12:05 #1501491Stradivarius’s decision to go for the Arc I thought was bonkers when the news was announced. It should be the stayer’s race at Ascot I thought at the time. He ain’t quick enough for 12f. Not his fault. He’s been trained as a stayer. No surprise to me whatsoever that he didn’t win the trial regardless of tactics.
September 14, 2020 at 14:03 #1501499It was a prep, i’m sure he’ll be better than that come Arc day. Not that i fancy him, but he’ll run a decent race, plenty of stayers have done.
