Did Martin Dwyer learn nothing from Pyledriver last year. Put Frankie up we,ll see the real Pylydriver.

I actually very nearly posted something similar yesterday, albeit not neccessarily Dettori. Just a change, to see if someone else could iron out these quirks before he ends up a ‘squiggle’ horse. Unlikely though given the current imcumbent is the co-trainers son-in-law I believe.

Good point regarding the famous squiggle, what about applying squiggles to Jockeys ?

Adding boomerangs to some would be more befitting.

    The horse is a dodgepot

Won’t make a difference who is on him

Hes just a bit of a nutcase

Agree FF. I really did not like the way he hung in behind the winner. I would be very surprised if he reversed the form no matter who is riding him.

Contrast him with Sir Ron Priestley. Straightforward, willing and galloped strongly to the line.

He rode a poor race on him in the Leger as well. Think he would benefit from a better/different jockey, his best run as a 2 year old by some way, was the only time he hasn’t been ridden by Dwyer. But he’s unlikely to get one being trained by his father in law.

The horse has no interest in running in a straight line

Given the weight difference between a racehorse and a jockey I fail to see what he’s done wrong personally

He certainly made a mess of the Leger. If I owned the horse, I’d be more inclined to try something different, and not just shrug and say “ah well, he’s a dodgepot”. I’d be going for the Hardwick with a fresh pilot, he has proven he likes Ascot well enough.

And I fail to see what the ratio of jockeys weight to horses weight has to do with it. Choice of jockey can be crucial. I know who I would want between Hollie Doyle and Martin Dwyer, for example, if my money was down.

He was very fresh early and being his first run perhaps got tired late on. Has shown similar traits before and not straightforward but has a engine and wouldn’t be writing him off just yet.
The horse that is not Dwyer..😅

I wouldn’t either. The horse loves Ascot, hopefully will run well there.

I was thinking he might go in cheek pieces or visa/blinkers in his next race, and there is a pricker to keep him straight. Hope that it is all sorted out, he is still a promising horse.

” cheek pieces or visa/blinkers in his next race”

Not sure how a debit card would help?

Though there is plenty of middle-distance influence on the dam’s side of his pedigree, Pyledriver is a son of Harbour Watch and IMO it’s a minor miracle his optimum trip seems to be 1m4f.

I really wouldn’t have a critical word to say about how he was ridden or performed in the St Leger.

I expected him to run well and quite possibly win on Saturday, but Sir Ron Prriestly seems a horse who has improved with racing, was able to dictate and was game and determined.

Pyledriver, who led fully 2f out when winning the Great Voltigeur, wasn’t even asked to make a move on Saturday until 2f out and looked less than genuine in the last quarter mile.

A ride more similar to the one he got at York would have helped, but he doesn’t look one to rely on to me.

Can’t see Epsom being ideal, athough the Coronation Cup does often cut up as plenty don’t like the course.
