Patrick Mullins saying Gaelic Warrior should be novice chasing next season which is a contrast to Willie who says the Stayers looks the place he’ll be aimed at

Nice shout mentioning Corach Rambler for the GC Ruby and HDLG, 20’s available with Coral and Ladbrokes, may well take a trip down to one of the two tomorrow and get a bet on!

In the opener I’m giving Call Me Lyreen another chance. Thought he’d have achieved more by now.

In The La Touche Cup I’m with two horses I’m no stranger to, Midnight Maestro and Mortak, and splitting my stakes the pair at around 11-2

The Stayers is a nice race, and although slightly surprised to see Sire Du Berlais back out so soon, I have to bet him again. I’d love to see him retire after this.

The 1800 is all about A Great View for me, but maximum respect to Legacy Thor is a strange old price at 33’s, and got to be a good chance I’ll add him.

Western Zara ran a nice race in The Kim Muir, and I thought the price very fair for her in The Mares Handicap, while I think Saint Roi is the one to be with in The Colliers. Think he’ll be a lot closer to El Fab this time

Pigsback Chase – Call Me Lyreen 16’s
La Touche Cup – Midnight Maestro
    La Touche Cup – Mortal
    Stayers – Sire Du Berlais
    Conway Hdl – A Great View 28’s EW 7pls
Colliers Chase – Saint Roi 8’s
Mares Handicap – Western Zara 11’s

Watched the race again; still can’t quite believe it. Both BMG and GDC beaten by a virtual novice who’d never won a race before (excluding as 3-yr-old in france).

Just the one bet for today, so far.

Had another in this 6 o clock.

    Beacon Edge @ 38.0

Just 4 lengths behind Asterion Forlonge and Monkfish off level weights. Top claimer booked taking off 5 so looks ok on paper. I think i’ll go and take that 25’s ew 6 places as well the more i think about it.

Thrown an e/w dart at Wild Shot in the 1st race today (6 places – why not?)
Wont be short of fitness, as run 5 times in last 9 weeks on the all-weather at Dundalk

3.40 ews on Feu de Bresil and Clever Currency, who both seem to be improving after decent excuses for some previous poor runs
4.15 The Folkes Tiara- some decent form and stable has a good record in 2m handicap chases
4.50 Clonguile Way- I missed the price so probably just token win only
5.25 Monkfish I thought his comeback run was very encouraging. Might do a rev f/c with Klassical Dream
    Next 3- undecided
7.45 Slade Steel, could be a good horse

It was a cracking day yesterday, and there was a real buzz after the big race, even allowing for the shock winner. I fancied a shock winner myself, but unfortunately I went with Fury Road

I can’t make it today which is a shame, as I was looking forward to seeing El Fabiolo, not that I am betting him

My bets today are Figaroc 7/1, Douglas Talking 3/1, Space Cadet 10/1, Asterion Forlonges 9/1, Walking On Air 7/1, and Western Zara 13/2

Going back to Gaelic Warrior, sorry, my favourite subject

If Monkfish runs another big race tonight (same ownership) could it be that they go down the Stayers route with him and Gaelic Warrior goes novice chasing with the long term view he could be a Gold Cup horse?

I think that’s likely Nathan. Monkfish will be 10 next year and I think the grade 1 staying chaser ship has sailed, and he’d be near topweight in most handicaps. Easier to keep sound over hurdles too.

Wilts, I like both your selections. This is the time of year when to catch the J McConnell horses in a meaningful race.

The Willie Mullins carousel never ends! I’d say, though this is probably common sense, that as you elluded to, if Monkfish runs a poor race tonight then Gaelic Warrior is more likely to go to the Stayers. Though we do know Mr. Ricci would love a gold cup win, he also loves any Cheltenham win, so would probably listen to the advice of Willie Mullins.

Having said all of this, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone crazy trying to work out Mullins’ plans for a horse far in advance! I’ve learnt to just avoid all ante post bets on the horses that seem 50/50 when it comes to their planned destination. I also can’t imagine Gaelic Warriors price will shorten too much more for the Stayers (think I saw a best price of 8/1 last night), so maybe best to wait until a target is confirmed, though I do know your love for the horse, so maybe one to just have a nibble at over the summer months with any disposable spare cash you have for whichever race you fancy.
