Nice to see York so far delivering a far better surface than Goodwood did.

You can’t help the weather, but you can help the artificial watering.

Fingers crossed they leave the taps off the rest of the week.

I wouldn’t bank on it if it doesn’t rain.

Regarding York, what is the point of that awful sounding pop music that accompanies the horse’s to the unsaddling enclosure?

I suspect it’s (yet) another attempt to “attract a new audience” – you can’t just have the winner led in to polite applause, everything has to be hyped to the nth degree.

When Matt Chapman was interviewing Ryan Moore after the Yorkshire Oaks you could see him (Moore) flinching when the music started. I was half expecting him to answer Chapman’s questions with a “Sorry I can’t hear a word you are effing saying with all this racket”.

I know some courses which play “music” in between races, even at small meetings. Oblivious to the fact that sitting by the paddock in a bit of peace and quiet is one of the nicest parts of the race day experience.

Peace and quiet seems much underrated nowadays.

At the risk of dragging this thread off-topic, noise pollution is one of the most underreported health threats out there.
