    A particular pet hate of mine is the complete inability of anybody in the British racing media to pronounce French names even vaguely accurately.

    I once made the mistake of attempting to place a bet on the Prix Exbury in a Ladbrokes extra shop that sometimes showed French racing. I compounded this error by insisting on asking if they had prices on the French racing from “Sancloo” to which the hapless youth behind the counter replied “no just Saint Cloud”.
