I think a slow pace is what is wanted really Clive. It’s like I read in the RP today, trainers wont want breakneck pace three weeks before the Arc as it could cause all kind of problems if a horse gets a small injury so close.
A slow pace would be ideal – then watch the stars run the show from 3 furlongs out with their normal speed.
All in all, we’ve got to remember these are indeed trials and not the main event.
(To be fair, by what I’ve just typed I’ve just given myself a doubt as to whether Zarkava is worth risking and backing tomorrow now…..)
September 13, 2008 at 23:59 #180826Yes but this is as good a target as Centenial is likely to get, so this will be targeted im sure. Not saying he will win but if the others have half an eye on October…
September 14, 2008 at 05:09 #180844My advise is back Zarkava right now for the Arc.
I suspect she badly neeeds a run but she oozes class and if she wins this comfortably in her current condition she will be what price come the big one?
Not al lot to lose really for her fans. If she got stuffed it is likely she is going to lose in the Arc anyway. Wins as she like she is going to be very very short and you will have stolen a price.

September 14, 2008 at 06:52 #180846I think Zarkava is already too short for the Arc at 7/2 and she would have to beat this lot by about 10 lengths going away to justify that sort of price, let alone go shorter. IMO she is already priced on hype and speculation, due to Soumillons comments after the Prix Du Diane, and the subsequent rise to power of Goldikova, bearing in mind that she has only ever achieved a rating of 124 over distances short of an arc trip. At a sedate pace she should win fairly cosily today against this opposition but what is she going to do that will cut her shorter than she already is?
September 14, 2008 at 07:02 #180848Winning cosily after all the speculation that she has not come on or that particular average gallop last week would do it. There’s no thick skin among the corporates!
September 14, 2008 at 11:43 #1808745/2 by the end of today I reckon
September 14, 2008 at 11:49 #180876I would much rather Zarkava won by a neck, hard held, than by ten lenghths. Call me old fashioned.
