I find the way the French races are run hard to judge form-wise.
Study Of Man a better horse than the form probably shows him imo.
Disappointed with Olmedo hopefully he can bounce back as i like him

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!August 16, 2018 at 17:13 #1363150Study Of Man was out again yesterday and I was a bit surprised to see him odds-on given that he did not hold that much of an advantage on the bare figures.
A preview I saw stated that Knight To Behold could be dangerous if allowed to dominate. I thought perhaps the French Jockey’s might be learning about letting the UK horses get an easy lead but no, they were as thick as usual.
Knight To Behold made all and held on by 4 lengths, Study Of Man only started closing when it was clear that the leader was away and could not even get second place as he finished two lengths further adrift in 3rd spot.
It was a disappointing effort from Study Of Man and the form looks mediocre.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
August 17, 2018 at 13:42 #1363216Knight to Behold put up a sectional performance on the clock of 126. Don’t make the mistake of under-estimating him.
This was quite clearly a prep run for Study of Man. He shaped well enough, but I would wait until next time before you write off the form of an entire classic.
August 17, 2018 at 14:47 #1363222Agree Degaussed, 73 day break, finishing 2Ls behind a horse he previously beat in G2 when previously he won G1….this is as clear a prep as you will see.
The FR are notorious with their preps.
I would be interested in him wherever he heads next time….has there been any signals? Priced of Irish champion stakes at 14s

I think that was the plan Jack but sounds as if the plan has changed now.
August 17, 2018 at 18:11 #1363237Even on the French Derby form Study Of Man didn’t have much to spare over Patascoy. Taking into account that he may not be fully wound up, it made him a bad bet at the odds he was.
I don’t think the French Derby was a good race and in fact I thought all their classics were below standard this year. Olmedo has clearly gone amiss somewhere but even his French Guineas win has only seen one winner from 16 starts and that was US Navy Flag when eventually dropped to 6F in the July Cup.
Going into the French Derby I had backed Olmedo and didn’t really have a fancy for anything else. I didn’t view Study Of Man as a genuine Group 1 quality winner.
Pascal Bary tends to stay at home and I have given up backing any of his for races in the British Isles.
I can’t visualise Study Of Man troubling the older horses in the Arc and I am confident he’s a place lay for that race. Entire Classic or not, I take the view that if it looks and feels “Boggin'” it is probably “Boggin'”
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
