Looking at the field now,I will be backing Harzand in this.Reminds me a bit of Workforce who as a Derby winner who was overlooked for the Arc after one poor run in between.
Don’t get me wrong I don’t think he is a world beater, but wouldn’t have to be in this field.
While having a strong chance,Postponed looks woeful short at 2/1 and I just do not believe the hype around him,Found seems to be becoming a professional second these days and while the Japanese horse looks tough,I can’t see him winning.
September 27, 2016 at 11:51 #1264918I’d be surprised if Harzand even turns up tbh Moyenne. He needs to properly get his toe in and the forecast isn’t favourable.
With his setback as well things aren’t looking too clever for him.
September 27, 2016 at 12:03 #1264919You are right of course but I saw there was some rain about on Friday and am hoping against hope that it continues into the weekend.
Taking a bit of comfort from DW pulling Fascinating Rock and leaving Harzand in,he must be fit and well at least.
Won’t be having a punt until the day and,if he is a non runner,it’s a watching race for me.
September 27, 2016 at 16:51 #1264936Maybe Harzand could run better than suggested on goodish ground and it’s a sensible decision to give his one and only derby winner a chance in the arc (especially if he was hurt early on in the Irish Champion Stakes), but Fascinating Rock is a real mudlark, so no surprise to see him taken out.
I put so much will into Sir Dermot winning the Derby but that was also because I was convinced that a Sea The Stars colt would win it for the first time.
Hold on a sec, Sea The Stars, The Arc, I’m doing me a rain dance all this week. Small saver on Harzand.
September 28, 2016 at 00:55 #1264959The value may have gone with Mahiki but if you look at all his runs and the videos he’s the one horse in this field that has the ability to take the breath away. You certainly didn’t see it in the Niel but look at some of his early runs and he looks an absolute monster, the japanese derby win was more of a grind but he showed he could battle
Ironic if the japanese finally broke their Arc duck away from Longchamp. I don’t think they’ll have a better chance as the field looks extremely poor by normal standards of this race.
MAHIKI all in
September 28, 2016 at 12:48 #1264979As probably expected Almanzor taken out in favour of a crack at the Champion Stakes.

Wise move Hopefully he gets to the Champion in one piece.

I’m not surprised you think it wise and hoping he gets there in one piece with 25/1 for the race

True, but it is good to see connections make an early quote and stick by it, especially after the Vatour debacle in last years Gold Cup which really p…ed me off
September 29, 2016 at 11:05 #1265068Loved to see found win. Such a tough filly. For value in the race new bay would be my tip but if it rained order of st George would get my pennies.
September 29, 2016 at 13:14 #1265084Am gutted LA Cressionieire is out put her up at 14/1 but now gone with LEFT HAND 20/1 3yo fillies have good record here ran well behind LA Cressioniere and then won Prix Vermille last time she do for me
September 29, 2016 at 16:14 #1265102Not a lot of love for Highland Reel
If you can forgive his run in the Irish Champion surely he is overpriced here.
Arguably should of won at Ascot, won KG (both over 12F) and beaten under 2 L by Postponed at York over 10
It was also interesting to note that HR was very well back for the KG ante post, he came in quite quickly as soon as the books opened from 14’s down to about 6’s even when Postponed was still entered.
Worth a small win bet @25’s for me.
September 29, 2016 at 20:02 #1265131Does Highland reel really have the quality that you might expect of an Arc winner though?
You see horses at big prices because of the quality of the race. It’s like when you see Justin Rose and Adam Scott at 20s and 25 for the masters.
I still can’t see past this Japanese horse Makahiki (that I was calling mahiki before) three year olds have a great record in the race. The only concern is that Japanese horses have yet to win the race. Now that is a worry but surely a record that has to be broken sooner rather than later.
I think bar Postponed if anything else wins it will be disappointing. I can see Found winning yes but she always seems to find one too good.

Or even Danny Willett this year. I only had a small bet because of the price and connections to be honest.
Also i think it could be quite a messy race with some hard luck stories. Possibly it could suit a front runner to try and slip the field.
September 29, 2016 at 20:32 #1265135Danny Willet winning the masters cost me 1400
Actually I think his odds were about 66-1 pretourney although that’s a separate issue I guess
Yes it can be a messy race, I recall Found getting stuck on the rail last year
Is she any stronger to find the gaps this time around? I find she is in better form than she was last year and her champion stakes effort was high class, but I think she needs to be ridden more aggressively than last year if she is to have a chance because she lacks the strength to bully her way past horses
Makahiki looks a magnificent animal to me. I think he could be the billy bollox.

Best of luck with your bet on the Japanese horse.
I agree with you about Found and maybe that’s the plan this year. If she gets a clear run from some way out it will take a good one to get past her ( i hope )
September 29, 2016 at 21:18 #1265138I haven’t had a bet yet actually.
I just think I might back Makahiki. Or Found. Or something else
best to keep the powder dry and the mind flexible
