If you type Zarkava into youtube you will find a video of her Marcel Boussac win.. At that time everyone was warned.. A staggering performance and better than I remembered when i watched it again.

just watched it…she was badly bumped and had to snatch up; should’ve realised the bumping and bargeing in the Arc wouldn’t have bothered her..amazing!

And here the photofinish in a large version of the decisive part (the "complete" version taken from the france-galop-page):

It’s Gino in front of SoF – it was a bad day for the French stewards.

I have been away so i know late post on subjet so appologies, I backed yomzain e/w at 12/1 and was very happy with result and it’s not very offten if at all that I actually did not mind losing as I thought it was a cracking race and was gobsmacked in which the ease she won, it was such a great race to watch and after seeing the replays of the start where she tried to duck out it’s an even better result the only downside of it, is her jockey not a fan at all……..

there is a lot of pages on this race so forgive me if this question has been asked, "Who would win between her and Peeping fawn?"

I made the point on the previous page that it is a shame Coolmore didn’t run Peeping Fawn this year, most likely because she is not worth as much as DOM or SOF; where as the Aga Khan I believe would have run Zarkava ahead of Montmarte, even if he had have been fit, because the filly was a crowd favourite.

IMO Peeping Fawn would beat both SOF and DOM over 12f. Would she have beaten Zarkava? Not unless PF had further improvement in her from 3 to 4 which could have been possible as she was a late developer. A 3 year old PF would not beat a 3 year old Zarkava though!

I heard about it taking so long for them to announce 3rd place by that picture it does not seem that hard to pick it, bad call i see the connections have appealed the decision and rightly so…

Zarkava. Peeping Fawn just wouldn’t be able to handle Zarkava’s turn of foot. She is the female Dancing Brave. She’d probably be Champion sprinter if connections had gone down that route given that Zarkava is just as brilliant over a mile as she is over 12 furlongs. Look at her form with Goldikova.

I think it is inevitavle that she will be retired, what could she prove by staying on another year, the only time I could see her being given a serious challenge is possibly in next years arc, if that came up soft, and its not really worth keeping her on training for another year, the only other possible thing that may get her beat is training off and that isnt really something any one would wish for. Shes done (probably more than) what she was bred to do, realistically cant really do any more, so why shouldnt she get retired IMO.

Apparently accoding to a spokesman for the Aga Khan a decision on her future is split down the middle but by the end of this weekend we should know. As to what she could prove well she has only raced on 2 tracks, never outside France and never on going faster than good. The ultimate aim for me other than the joy it would give racing lovers would be the Breeders Cup and back to back Arcs, she would be the first filly to do it and the first horse since Alleged 30 years ago. After all we won’t see a filly as goood as this for a very very long time so why not enjoy as much of her as we can.

    Fists

You must be sober or feeling unwell as the last bit of your post showed restraint and reasoning :)

With regard to Arkle and "youngsters" not quite appreciating how good he was, do you think the same could be levelled at "Arkleists" with regards to say Golden Miller ?

I only ever saw short footage of Golden Miller who was obviously a very very good horse. One huge difference between the 2 is Arkle lost very seldom wheras Golden Miller lost 24 times during his career.

Can you imagine any horse today reaching a rating of 212? This horse was so superior they had to make 2 handicaps when he was entered incase he didn’t run. He would have had to carry 14 stone in the National to get the bottom horses in without overweight.

The thing about Arkle is that it is virtually unanimus when it comes to which was the greatest of all time and he did it in an era when there were some really top class horses going about. Mill House Stalbridge Collonis Bonne Notte, Rondetto, Pas Suel, Bassnet and Flying Bolt are but a few that spring to mind. These horses all won top class races in their time and would be on a par with horses like Neptune Collanges Old Vic Exotic Dancer if not better.

I think you will find Golden Miller won his Gold Cups due to combination of class and toughness. He was run close on several occasions not conceding lumps of weight. Nothing could get within 20 lengths of Arkle of levels except Mill House when Arkle was a youngster.

When both horses reached their primes Arkle had improved so much he could have probably beat Mill House giving him 2 stone …he would probably do exactly the same to the mighty Denman if he were around today. I just can’t see another one like him coming along, the horse was without doubt a freak of nature. This horse gave 16lbs to the brilliant Mill House and beat him by nearly a fence. There was no fluke to it he knocked a massive 17 seconds of the Sandown Park course record in the process. Admittedly Golden MIller achieved a lot during his career but nothing as spectacular as that. His Natinal record stood for along time until Rummy

The question I always ask myself is how many gold Cups would he have won had he not broken his fetlock. Woodland Venture 1967 was about 2 stone inferior to Arkle. His musch inferior stable companion Fort Leney won it in 1968 and What A Myth who are beat giving 35lbs to in the 1966 Hennessy won it in 1969. By that time Arkle would have been 12 years old the same age as What A Myth…I think it is safe to say we were robbed of seeing Arkle win at least 6 Gold cups

To answer your question I would have to say no.

I don’t care what the handicappers say, that was special- reminded me of Dancing Brave the way she cut them down in the straight- she has to be one of the best fillies of the last 20 years. I hope they let her go to the Breeder’s Cup- what have they got to lose?, but I suspect that’s the last we’ll see of her. I’d love to see her in the Classic against Curlin and co.- I’d make her favourite.

Thankfully I didn’t care what they said before the Arc  She’s special there is no doubting that but there were no Dancing Braves in that Arc.

Having said that would Dancing Brave or anything else stand up to a finish like that from a filly who after all would be getting weight from them? I have my doubts.

Hard call mate!!! but who’s to argue with you?

Theres no doubt she’s a very good filly, but you cant serious call her a great filly,at least not if she’s retired at the end of this season. When she is being compared to fillies like miesque, pebbles alez france, all these filles raced at 4 took on the best of the 3yro generation of that yr and were beating them. The word great is thrown around like confetti these days and every other horse is labeled a "great".let her race on at 4 and take in ascot the king george and then try for a 2nd arc, then the breeders cup,if she can do that then sure she’s a great filly but untill then imo she is just another very good horse.

Confirmation of what most of us knew deep down. She goes to acquaint herself with Dalakhani next year, apparently.

I was afraid of that. I have to agree with NY there is no way of really telling.

It’s sad really when you think how oftten do horses like her come along. I know it’s a business but if she were mine I would just have to know. Money isn’t everything and can’t buy the pleasure she would give were she to prove unbeatable.

Guess her owner has done it all and seen it all and doesn’t care anymore.
