Numbers 1 to 6 have qualified by performances in 6 qualifying races – 2 "in-and-you’re in", and 4 where points are gained by finishing in the frame.
Numbers 7 to 18 are allocated on the basis of lifetime earnings.

Offshore Dream is going for a 3-timer in this, but I’m not sure he’s been in quite the same form recently (breathing problems), and the same can be said about Exploit Caf, who hasn’t exactly set the world on fire since his Elitlopp win last May.

The top class Swedish horse, and last year’s runner-up, Opal Viking, can’t be ruled out, he is a solid Group 1 horse. There’s been a bit of a whisper for another Swede, Triton Sund, who’s been in cracking form of late.

Without any confidence whatsoever, if I were having a bet, I’d go for Exploit Caf to return to form and win it from Magnificent Rodney, with among the outsiders, Niky could run on into a place. So that’s 3 to forget about. Bonne chance!

Once more a fantastic event…they certainly know how to get the adrenalin flowing. A great and much deserved win for MEAULNES DU CORTA, quite an easy victory in the end. Offshore Dream never really featured, Exploit Caf wasn’t 100% ( comment from trainer, before the race ) and to win these kind of races you have to be 110%. QUALITA BOURBON ran a brave race to be third, had her nose in the wind for most of the distance, and wobbling a bit around the last bend, otherwise she would most probably habe been second and a lot closer to the winner. This will have took a lot out of her in my opinion. NOUBA DU SAPTEL ran on well to be second.

A decisive win by Meaulnes Du Corta, no unlucky losers there. MDC’s career earnings now top €2million.

It looked a fairly roughish race at times, but then it usually is I suppose.

    The winner paid 5,40 €. The Quinte was a handy 36,912 €.

During the rest of today you can see the race at http://www.chvideo.fr/homepage.aspx

It’s just come up on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXttcf-RL-w but the picture quality isn’t as good of course.

As they kept screaming into the mic the best horse won, the best horse won on Equidia nobody could disagree. Took the race by the scruff of the neck early on and ran away from the field. Pierre Levesque has now trained the winner of the last three outings.

Meaulnes De Corta followed up today by winning the 2100m Group 1 400.000 € Prix De France (aka "La Revanche Du Prix D’Amerique") at Vincennes this afternoon in front of a big crowd.

In a tight finish, Nouba Du Saptel was 2nd and Swedish raider Opal Viking 3rd. Time for the 2100m was 2’30"31.

An emotional win indeed for driver Pierre Vercruysse (drove Offshore Dream in the D’Amerique), only recently returned after recovering from injuries sustained in a road accident last summer in which his son was tragically killed.

UK racing’s rulers and scribes could do worse than to look and learn from these big French trotting events as to how major races and meetings can be effectively marketed to maximise interest, attendance and betting turnover. But I don’t suppose they’ll bother, they know everything, I’m sure.

Here is the race on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tqugs9BLX-w
