Big fan of Iroko, but not the type of bet I would have here
A couple of these could potentially be here for a stroll, so I’ve gone with Mousey Brown. Woefully out of form, before she put in what I thought was a much improved performance at Doncaster last time in The Yorkshire Rose
If she appears in the entries at Leopardstown, I’ll consider cashing out

February 24, 2026 at 09:06 #1756075Protektorat looks the obvious one here for me. A class horse favoured by the conditions as he runs without a penalty under 11-2. Won over 2m 6f at Windsor, Class 2 but similar opposition to here, and ran well under a big weight over an extended 3m 3f behind Marble Sands at Cheltenham.
As a side note, Ain’t That A Shame will presumably run as he needs to run in chase to qualify for the Grand National. It will be first run for Tom Ellis, his last run having been when 6th in the 2024 National.
We’ve not had a huge amount of rain in Scotland last few days, light rain forecast intermittently but can’t the see going been any worse than Soft if that. Forecast to cloudy on Saturday as well which is no bad thing!
February 24, 2026 at 23:11 #1756173Note on the Skelton horse , he’s ran Kelso once before and got absolutely destroyed by Empire Steel , not sure what happened that day but it would be a concern that it may not be his course
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 25, 2026 at 12:41 #1756212I think that Minella Drama can make the frame here, so I’ve taken more than is wise at 33-1 ew
February 25, 2026 at 14:54 #1756253HDLG – Protektorat was reported as having had wind surgery 7 days after that run at Kelso. That said, he has had 5 lots of wind surgery…, the last prior to his last time Windsor win.
Still think assuming all is well that this race is his for the taking.
February 25, 2026 at 18:10 #1756340He certainly had the talent to win but it’s just a question mark when playing a short price
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 25, 2026 at 18:52 #1756359Market is set too close to accurate for me so I’ll enjoy the race from the rooftop of the old stand.
February 25, 2026 at 18:57 #1756361Aww you going Rob , you’ll get to see my fav horse in training , Dedicated Hero , hoping for big run in the Morebattle , he def deserves a change of luck after last time
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 26, 2026 at 13:50 #1756419Just four declared. What a waste.
If the National weights and qualifications came after Cheltenham, then that would boost the appeal of this race, helping 135-140 horses win and gain a few pounds to hopefully get in the big one. Instead we get this, with too many horses going for the much more competitive Ultima or Kim Muir instead just because ‘The Fez’.
February 26, 2026 at 13:55 #1756421It’s a non event and not what Kelso deserve , you.d think someone with a Aintree horse would be tempted
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 26, 2026 at 14:55 #1756429All credit to Dan Skelton, whatever you might think of him, he sure places his horses well.
As regards numbers, what can you do? Turn it into a handicap?February 26, 2026 at 15:10 #1756431It’s some easy prize money for Skelton , I don’t think that helps , it’s a head scratcher why more GN horses arent here , perfect prep
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 26, 2026 at 17:20 #1756440Any market interest now likely to be on the race for 2nd place, a £12800 3 runner veterans’ contest! Had hoped Iroko and Matata might be in to make a contest. Ain’t That A Shame is the one runner in for a National qualification, a decent animal at best and will be interesting to see how much ability remains.
HDLG – I’ll be present as I am for most meetings having been a Kelso member since 2014.
