The race that was the feature of the first day is now a bit player on a heavy Saturday card. Admittedly the bloodstock sales take precedence over most of the racing, hence the early starts and modest quality of the fields.
The 5f 140yd trip is pretty unique and this century it has favoured horses of 5 years of age and over.
The Great St Wilfrid is often a good trial but this year’s does not look to be particularly reliable. Tax Free has been raised since his second there and subsequent York win, his effort last week suggests he is probably a bit too high in the weights now. Singeur has never won a handicap from a mark higher than 92, there is a suspicion he is better over the bare 5f than this extended trip and that Ripon is his course.
Multiple form lines abound and the lack of consistent ground has not made untangling them any easier. James Fanshawe runs the lightly-raced Hallelujah, partnered by Hayley Turner. Fanshawe is superb at getting his sprinters to blossom from 4yo upwards and she has been given a break since a good third in a group 3 at York over 6f. She just got a bit tired that day and tomorrow’s trip looks perfect for her. I think she can prove herself at a higher level in due course. Naturally she will need to avoid bad luck in a field of 22 but at 10/1 she looks a sporting selection.
September 14, 2012 at 19:49 #413118I’m heavily on Texas Gold – oh wait that was the win that never happened a few years back.
September 15, 2012 at 00:13 #413143Had winner last year so happy with NOCTURNAL AFFAIR
MASS RALLY i like in race tomorrow.
September 15, 2012 at 11:25 #413189I quite fancy the chances of Rex Imperator and Barnett Fair, but as you are the lady in form (A very nice result following your selection last week.
) I think I’ll invest a little in your selection. Fingers crossed.September 15, 2012 at 14:08 #413217I backed Barnet at 20’s EW in the end, so a reasonable profit.
September 17, 2012 at 15:13 #413512She was a non-runner so I did not have a bet. Well done though!
September 19, 2012 at 14:18 #413650I backed Face The Problem, and for the third time in a row, I faced a problem.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
October 5, 2012 at 19:04 #415337Hallelujah runs in a listed race at Newmarket tomorrow that is one of her trainer’s favourites. Frizzante won this as a 4yo before going on to win the July Cup the following year. She was a much shorter price and at the time had not shown the level of form Hallelujah has to her name.
6/1 on going that should suit seems a fair investment.
