    Hello there,

Please find below a list of those horses to perish in point-to-points or hunter chases during the last British season, November 2008 to June 2009.

There were 96 losses in total, albeit from a qualified hunt horse population of around 3,750 horses that ran over 12,000 times collectively in 1,548 races. That equates to a loss rate over the season of about 0.8% of all runners.

I post these not as a stick to beat pointing with (quite the opposite), nor out of any other ulterior motive. Rather, I know that quite a few of the horses in the list featured under Rules previously with greater or lesser degrees of success. Their passing may well have been missed by anyone not following the pointing scene exhaustively, and will be mourned by those of you who regarded them fondly under Rules (Armaturk and Galapiat Du Mesnil being perhaps the best-known casualties).

Needless to say, they will all be sorely missed between the flags this season, which commences five days hence.

I only recognize Armaturk. What a sad read that is though. Every loss is sad whether well known or not.

I noticed 3 missing from the list – Bangkok Bob, Magicien and Master Wiz.
