At the risk of being accused of chauvinism, I appreciate this is a delicate subject, but has anyone done any stats. on female jockeys to eradicate the myth or otherwise that their monthly cycle interferes with their riding abilities?
I vividly recall a recent ATR interview with a certain well-known female jockey and thinking at the time that it might be an idea to give her mounts a bit of a swerve for a few days. And so it proved.January 10, 2009 at 21:21 #203021Ken,
That is a slightly ridiculous suggestion
January 10, 2009 at 21:27 #203026I think if you ask any female who suffers badly with PMT they will admit that at that particular time their co-ordination, mood, reflexes, thinking, judgement etc. will be affected. I speak from experience.
January 10, 2009 at 21:30 #203027Ken, I humbly suggest that if you are seriously considering factoring this element into your betting equations, then you would be better sending your cash to me, to spend as I see fit.
January 10, 2009 at 21:34 #203028So, Grasshopper, do I take it that you would not factor in whether to back a horse in foal?
January 10, 2009 at 22:14 #203037I fail to see the relevance, Ken.
Cash or cheque is fine.
January 10, 2009 at 22:25 #203038I think this is an interesting angle. I suggest that all jockeys, male or female, be required to tell us pre-race whether they are feeling a bit fed up, under the weather or if they’ve got earrache, tummy ache or indeed an itchy nose. Then it might also be helpful to know how much they had to drink the night before, whether they’re having an affair, worried about the price of petrol or the crisis in the Middle East.
We could then remove the likes of Segal and employ psychiatrists and GPs to write the Spotlight sections in the Post.
‘Dobbin may be ten pounds well in here but his jockey’s blood pressure is a little high and I suspect he may be coming down with something. Additionally, the row he had with his fiancee two evenings ago has not yet been resolved and the alternating feelings of guilt and anger he is experiencing are not conducive to getting the best out of his mount today.’
Ken, I admire your diligence and my mind boggles to think of the forensic detail you must go into before placing a bet.
January 10, 2009 at 23:35 #203061Yes, fair comment. I apologise profusely to all female jockeys and women of the World. I was in the wrong. Put it down to me having a bad day in Bob’s Competition, my System going in deficit, as well as Nurse being late with my medicine.
January 10, 2009 at 23:41 #203065I think if you ask any female who suffers badly with PMT they will admit that at that particular time their co-ordination, mood, reflexes, thinking, judgement etc. will be affected. I speak from experience.
I think if you ask any woman who suffers badly from PMT whether she’d like a cup of tea at the wrong time and she’ll throw something heavy at your bonce; I, too, speak from experience.
January 10, 2009 at 23:48 #203067Gives a new twist to backing the rag!
January 10, 2009 at 23:49 #203068Oh no – Insomniac, that is so, so wrong
January 11, 2009 at 00:23 #203073Have I stumbled into the Betfair Forum by accident?
January 11, 2009 at 00:46 #203077Quote – "having a bad day in Bob’s Competition"
Bob will be delighted to learn that his competition is make-or-break for some people’s weekends.
January 11, 2009 at 00:52 #203079To quote a certain Scotsman, sadly departed, "Bob’s competition is not just a game. It’s life and death for some people."
With apologies for wordplay, Bill.January 11, 2009 at 12:26 #203166Perhaps studying Gemelova’s last rides would be a bonus to the investigation
.January 11, 2009 at 15:02 #203169Good stuff Ken. I’m sure people who look at racing from the sort of angles you suggest in your opening post ie. variables not factored into the price, make money from the game in the long term. It would be interesting to check out your theory. Let me know if you ever get hold of the dates concerned
