We must be mentalists betting in this sport

Had 12 X £1 lines going into the Race 5 FONTWELL on my placepot 2 selections in the race LIMERICK BOY and TEEMING RAIN…AAGGGHHH!!!!!

Then at MUSSELBURGH Race 5 of the Placepot did a £5 line going well just need HIBIKI to get a place but R JOHNSON decides not to give his arthritic arms to much work..then 5 yards from the line makes an effort.

Talking through my pocket yes..but the first scenario…Dick Francis couldnt write !!!!

I used to do placepots when I worked in a bookies 20 odd years ago, so as to have an interest during the afternoon.

I was amazed at how many winners I picked, without actually trying.

It rather hammered home to me the point that the VDW enthusiasts make about form, class and consistency.

I think discipline and coping with losing runs are 2 aspects of racing (and betting in general) that are more difficult than picking winners IMO.

Personally I find it very very difficult to cope with losing runs psychologically. I would get into a bad mood and caused household rows with my wife and son just to take my frustration and anger out.

Over the 26th and 27th of December last I had a terrible run, with horses who I thought had great chances running way below they should have (Our Vic and Twist Magic for example).

When Twist Magic lost I just flipped and went outside and kicked my bin around for a couple of minutes.

I decided to stop betting for a while and didn’t bet again until yesterday when I had about 5 bets, all for only €2, so any losing runs wouldn’t really much any difference (previously I was a €10 – €20 punter but any bad run of losses and the money starts to add up)

I’d like to think I’ve turned the corner while still maintaining an interest in the sport, which I find difficult to do without a financial interest TBH.

    You don’t want to know.

    It is a secret sect.

See the systems section, or read copies of Raceform Update from the 1970s and 80s.

It is basically form study, but wrapped up in aura.

An interesting feature is that if there is no standout horse, there is no bet. None of this looking for value nonsense that Gingertipster, Carvillshill, Robnorth, or myself in my own small demented way try to seek.

They concentrate on certain top class races, and we all need to specialise anyway.

They do simplistic things such as concentrate on the first few horses in the betting, and "add up" their form figures , so 421 = 7.

I think class mainly comes in through the class of race that horses have been running in, rather than the class of the horse.

However, I believe at the end of the day they must do some kind of form study.

I’ve never read any VDW literature, as I’ve never come across anything accessible.

I am not exactly a huge "form book man"! As i back at 5-1+ in lucky 15’s, canadians etc then i prefer to see where the value lies based on general form, trainer form, course, ground etc. A good day will yield 1 winner and 3 places from my each way lucky 15. I dont put in hours of study, dont have the time for it.

Do we really need another thread dedicated to the heart-breaking monotony of GOTF’s placepot woes?

A discussion of the placepot as a betting medium is one thing, but thread after thread of either complaining or aftertiming (we never hear about the selections until he has four thousand lines going into the last leg) strikes me as utterly pointless.

David im with you..ive cut back since new year having small bets £2.50 and £5 wins,i occasianally still go nuts when i lose but im ok after 10 minutes and usually dont get to watch the racing till late evening so dont take it out on anyone else except myself ie useless so and so,”hes not trying””jockeys a twisted B*****d!!!” im slowly getting better!!!!.

Equitrack ”aftertiming on losing selections”now that make sense,if you dont want to read my posts ..DONT!!!!!

We are not all model punters like you,who dont bat an eyelid when your luck lets you down.

Went to southwell today had 4 winners. I had a placepot, leg 5 done me over, had the one horse to get placed. If that would of come top 2 then i would have one. Haha. If you keep missing out mate, just do place bets on betfiar or paddy power?
