I took Ms Cider to the centre course at Uttoxeter yesterday. She loved it.
We smuggled a bottle of wine in for her, took our own picnic basket and beanbags so we could sit and relax with not a care in the world. The first fence on the circuit was right in front of us and she had the time of her life.
Apart from there and Cartmel (next on the list) where else is there that offers a cars to centre of the course enclosure where you can take a picnic etc in?
I know Beverley does, wetherby also but not really a picnic enclosure as such.
Anyone got any nice recommendations?
May 29, 2023 at 12:41 #1649527I sometimes used to go in the centre at Beverley way back in the day.
I’m think Fontwell Park offers the option.
At least, last time I was there on a sunny spring day there were plenty of people camped out in the middle clearly with zero intention of budging an inch all afternoon.
Fair play to them.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"May 29, 2023 at 12:43 #1649528Not exactly the same, but you can park next to the Goodwood hill and sit up there with a picnic/drinks for free can’t you?
May 29, 2023 at 12:44 #1649529Plumpton. Similar set up to Uttoxeter by the sound of it
May 29, 2023 at 12:54 #1649533Pontefract.
They do have a picnic enclosure further up from Tatts and you don’t need to smuggle food and drink in, it’s allowed. £15 for a car and up to 4 occupants
Better still unless you want a bet with the bookies is to park in Pontefract Park in the centre of the track for free. Take all the food and drink you want and there are toilets. Great view of the entire track as well. Sounds ideal for you and the missus
and a dog if you have one.May 29, 2023 at 13:00 #1649534Two cracking “ponce a free day at the races” suggestions from Ben and Yeats there.
Who needs Rewards4Racing when you can simply ascend Trundle Hill or park up behind some loos at Ponte?
Great thread, tbf.

Plumpton, fontwell and goodwood are all a bit of a stretch for a day out for us! Driving in excess of 200 miles one way would end up with some soggy sausage rolls!
Plus, who the hells wants to the designated driver for a 4 hour drive when your mrs has been on the wine and egg sarnies all day!
It’s been many years since I visited ponte carlo and hopefully that will remain the case for the foreseeable future! The track itself though is lovely!
May 29, 2023 at 14:33 #1649540Can’t go wrong on the hill at Bangor. £12 per head and picnics welcome.
May 29, 2023 at 17:49 #1649550Cartmel. The only track in the country where the commentator says “and they have gone past the sticky toffee pudding shop”.
May 29, 2023 at 20:11 #1649562Perth offers a centre course enclosure for the busier meetings in summer, though not as often as they used to (Festival in April doesn’t have centre course access).
Kelso offers a ‘picnic enclosure’ on the outside of the course down from the furlong marker.May 29, 2023 at 20:22 #1649563Does Stratford also have centre parking and facilities, went there once just a blur these days.
May 30, 2023 at 12:25 #1649599Pretty sure last time i was at Thirsk there was some sort picnic area down by the 1 furlong pole.
May 30, 2023 at 13:28 #1649601I received an email from Perth in the last few days saying their centre enclosure is open for their four weekend fixtures. A bar, ice cream van and a few bookies are in the centre.
However you now have to book your car in advance and it is £20 per person(I’m sure they used to charge per car). How does that compare with other courses?
I’ve been in the centre course once. It was great to see the horses flying over the last fence but not so good if you wanted to see the whole race in the flesh.

Good call from Landafar, I was last there last October and that was still the case then.
Good viewing track tbf.

Never underestimate forum tight-fistedness – many here would rough it before they’d even pay for an AirB&B!

Cartmel is probably going to have to wait until next year now. We’re heading down to Devon to see the outlaws in July and I’ve managed to arrange it on dates whereby an overnight stay at Bath for their midweek fixture is taking place.
Chester in august for the annual living like Rocafella weekend! I’m taking a bag of cocaine large enough to fill the hole in the suitcase where I would normally pack my sacks!
