Racing’s Fates are the closest relatives you will find to the fabled Greek Gods. Both revel in turning lives and fortunes upside down, no matter your supposed status on this earth.
Last year at this point Venetia Williams had trained 12 winners from 45 runners counting from November 1st. This year the numbers are 3 from 35. I like Djelo. At one point I thought he could reach the top, but I fear he might have two ways of running. He disappointed at Windsor in January, and again at Cheltenham and Aintree in his last two runs of the season. This, allied to Venetia’s form (of 3 Saturday runners, one was last of 8; the others pulled up) puts me off the favourite.
Hitman finally won a race last time at Aintree and was most convincing in doing so, but, as Timeform say with no apparent irony, ‘not an obvious type to follow up.’
That brings us to the Mullins runner Saint Sam. He has run to very good ratings, but has a habit of making mistakes. At the price I’m happy to overlook him in favour of Boombawn, Skelton’s runner. Harry Skelton is on the record saying the horse needs good ground to be at his best, though he has run a 161 Timeform rating on soft when 2nd to Rubaud in a Kempton Grade 2. His best is 166. Ground here at Huntingdon is forecast as soft, good to soft in places. He’s worth a small bet at 10/1.
Much as I’d love to see a revival from an old favourite Edwardstone, he hasn’t won for nearly two years and his best form is at shorter trips.
Good luck
Joe
December 7, 2025 at 10:02 #1746896Saint Sam for me
Glad he’s OK, when I didn’t see an entry for the Clonmel Oils I was worried.
Put a little rev f/c on with Boombawn as he has been targeted here.
I like Djelo but the stable are not in form.
I love Hitman but nobody else does and you can get any price you like. I think I’ll leave him today and back him for something else later in the season.December 7, 2025 at 11:15 #1746901Couldn’t touch a Wiliams horse esp at the price , Saint Sam wins his share but that’s down to some great Mullins placing , Hitman is Hitman and Boombawn is always one to take on , I’m on the old boy Edwardstone , he’s knocking on and isn’t the horse he was however the step up in trip should help and the pipe opener should have him fit
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
December 7, 2025 at 11:57 #1746907Djelo drifting like a barge ….
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
December 7, 2025 at 13:00 #1746909Djelo would’ve been a certainty here if the yard wasn’t so out of form.
December 7, 2025 at 13:30 #1746919Edwardstone stone for me at 20-1, but I can’t be massively confident
December 7, 2025 at 14:26 #1746946Kris, I hope that you’re right. Heart ruling the head here, but the 16-1 on Edwardstone for me in this
December 7, 2025 at 14:33 #1746949He’s got a lot to do Jeff, but hopefully he can go well
December 7, 2025 at 14:41 #1746950I don’t know about Edwardstone, the ground is very heavy and sticky. It’s heavier than heavy and he hasn’t shown any decent form in the past two years. I thought he was retired after Sandown last season.
If Djelo is on song he’ll be tough to beat. I went with Hitman at 12/1 EW just in case the fond the trick.December 7, 2025 at 15:06 #1746967Djelo blithely unaware of his yard’s form and jumped beautifully.
December 7, 2025 at 15:07 #1746968That’ll cheer up Venetia , cracking run from old Edwardstone to
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
December 7, 2025 at 15:08 #1746970King George next for him, made it all look very easy.
December 7, 2025 at 15:14 #1746975He did Ruby but he’s been found out if grade 1s before , just think at the business end he’ll be found out
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
December 7, 2025 at 15:18 #1746981He’s a good horse but will need similar luck to Golden Ace to win a King George.
December 7, 2025 at 15:22 #1746982Given the ground and that he was never really off the pace, that was some performance by Djelo. Maybe he has turned the corner, especially against the run of Venetia’s form, but he’ll be short enough next time to oppose and that has surely taken plenty out of him?
December 7, 2025 at 19:39 #1747001Djelo is better going righthanded, so that is a bit of an excuse for his Cheltenham and Aintree runs in grade 1s. I think Kempton should suit him perfectly. Only 19 days is a worry though.
