This year’s series kicks off tomorrow at Cheltenham.
I’m sure I’ll have a few in mind as the season progresses.
This year’s renewal was won by the Elliott/JP McManus combination, and no surprise really, that my attention is drawn to a few of them.
From the Elliott yard I’ve got my eye on the likes of Couer Sublime, Defi Bleu (if all ok with him, and also Ben Dundee if they go back over Hurdles.
It’s of course too early to really take a strong view, then perhaps this might be the year they finally give a try to The Storyteller here. He’s apparently Aintree bound, which I’m not fully convinced with, and he’s got a very nice hurdle mark to exploit.
If it’s hard enough to pick one out of that yard, then it’s just as hard to pick a JP Horse, as he loves this race.
Palmers Hill would be my #1 right now if I knew all was well with him, while despite slight concerns over the trip, I still haven’t fully given up the idea of his stablemate, Aspen Colorado, running here.
I think Shades of Midnight could have a good season, and I’d love to see him go this route as well.
As for tomorrow’s Qualifier, I like Sykes each way, but with this Final in mind, then Sunset Showdown could be one to keep tabs on for this Final.
Thankfully there’s no market for The Final at the moment.
November 7, 2019 at 15:05 #1474289Qualifier up and coming at Newbury.
I like the idea of Geordie B for both this and the final, while another who I think could be interesting for March is Robin The Raven.
November 9, 2019 at 20:20 #1474461Latest qualifier at Aintree today, and a decent enough winner in Skandiburg. I don’t see why he can’t challenge in March, though I’d give him a chance at Haydock in a fortnight, so his mark might rise again anyway.
I was very interested in Campeador today at Naas anyway, but I was quite happy with what I watched. Travelled well enough before blowing up close to home.
He’d be one I’m very interested in for this at this early stage. He’d be up there with Palmers Hill.
December 23, 2019 at 22:25 #1477931As much as I’m trying to hold back, I might have to have a few quid on Tedham, before he takes in the Qualifier at Wincanton on Boxing Day.
I really like this horse, and reckon he’d be competitive in The Stayers, so the 33’s with Hills looks massive.
This Qualifier is tough in itself, with Duc De Beauchene in there, and Myplaceatmidnight in there as well.
I doubt I’ll bet Tedham for the Qualifier, as Myplaceatmidnight looks way overpriced, but for Cheltenham it’s a different matter.
No money down, but close to it.
Tedham 33’s
December 28, 2019 at 13:00 #1478363The Storyteller for me definitely.
December 28, 2019 at 13:17 #1478365Another example of the Bookies getting their act together.
I don’t like bringing up a winner, but it’s probably the best example.
Waited till Sire Dus Berlais crossed the line last year, before nabbing him for this.
One year on, and tried to get the 25’s before the off for The Storyteller, but entire market was pulled by Hills, then tried the 16’s, with Bet365, but they had pulled him.
Stuck with 12’s, but I don’t think that will last long.
The Storyteller 12’s
December 30, 2019 at 02:34 #1478507Pretty shoddy stuff by them Bobby, at the least they could have waited til the race was in
progress. I backed him for the race (Saturday’s race at Leopardstown, not Cheltenham) and
watched him the whole way round. I think Davie Russell gave him a very “comfortable” ride,
and at the business end I think Davie didn’t want to crack his nail polish or something,
waving the reins about to little avail. He had his stick in his right hand, but having
watched the rerun several times, I’m blowed if I can see him landing it on the horse once.
I think there was plenty left in the tank at the end. I’m hoping I can recoup my losses, and
win a bit more, as I think this race was all about Cheltenham. I wasn’t fast enough out of
the blocks (a bit like Davy) to even get the 12s, but took the 10/1.The Storyteller 10/1
December 30, 2019 at 17:38 #1478548Yeah, no problems with them doing it during the race. If I’m being honest, if it was my firm, I’d do exact same, but not before the race.
No great concern though, as would have been a small bet beforehand, but as it is, I’ve had to put a bit more on at the 12’s, but in a year where my Antepost is tight, he’s one that I’ve had a decent go at.
December 31, 2019 at 05:51 #1478590I have 15s on The Storyteller for any race with this in mind.
I couldn’t have been happier to see him squeak home in 6th the other day. Plotted.
January 6, 2020 at 13:17 #1479085MY first bullet
DIOMEDE DES MOTTES 50/1 EW
Ran wlll at Chepstow behind Thyme hill and Fiddlerontheroof
And then lost to SKANDIBURG by 2 lengths and form has been franked.
Over priced at 50s. Skelton got him off a mark off 135 so touch and go if he gets in.
Good luck happy punting
January 6, 2020 at 17:13 #1479113Decent looking Qualifier at Warwick on Saturday.
Good to see Tedham in there, but my eye is immediately drawn to a horse I have t given up on, Its All Guesswork. Whether he comes here or not, the entry is enough for me, and he’s on my radar now for this and other Cheltenham targets.
January 9, 2020 at 19:40 #1479380I thought that the price of Ronald Pump would have collapsed after a very good word from Kevin Blake, but 16/1 is still there.
I’m trying very hard to minimise AP bets on the Handicaps this year, but that is a nice price.
January 12, 2020 at 08:36 #1479613I thought last year’s winner Sire Du Berlais ran an eye catching race at Warwick yesterday. Fourth and staying on but “not knocked about” as they say.
January 12, 2020 at 09:52 #1479615He’s the one I took out of it Cork, though he didn’t exactly go unnoticed.
I’ve had a few pounds on him, just because he won’t be 10-1 on the day, and you would expect him to run here.
January 19, 2020 at 22:26 #1480276Decent looking Qualifier at Huntingdon on Friday, and Palmers Hill is a potential runner.
Been waiting on him back out for over a year, and though he’s clearly had some sort of setback, if he’s as good as he was, he’s a big player, and this would be perfect.
January 20, 2020 at 19:45 #1480333I also really like Sire Du Berlais for this again.
January 20, 2020 at 21:52 #1480344He’s impossible to rule out Ray.
Entered over an inadequate trip at Leapordstown next week, so perhaps an opportunity to shave a couple of pounds off, if the British Handicapper buys it.
