I am pretty much of an anachronism
on a racing site and I wonder at times
if I am even a legitimate poster
given that I write so little on the horse
and have had no bet for well over a yonk.
I do not have the time or cannot find the time
to create the necessary time,
and have never gambled without serious study,
so I am fully out of the markets
and in some sense am an imposter
Dull and safe but I hope to return
when time allows.
I do though find time to pontificate on things
that maybe shouldn’t concern me quite so much,
in houses like these. RULES
How people and art are removed
from sites like these has always interested me greatly
and should interest all who contribute and invest here,
not least the creator who sits at the button.
I am pleased to see that things have improved
in little ways; the etiquette of a yellow card
whatever form that takes, must be a good thing.
Large chunks of lounge are no longer trimmed off by what can only be described as a reformed battleaxe who has restrained his urges.
‘Dumped’ got through the censors and properly so,
and Sandy’s scathings are still on open view
but the diane satanic verses were woefully
and unceremoniously burned to cinders,
before I and I am sure others
had the opprtunity to read them.
I lile a hard regime
but let’s keep the raw.
flatcapgamble…Old crusty will never create a sin bin as he knows it would outperform and devalue the zippy racing section and that stat alone would cause such embarrassmnet. Remeber chitchat II
February 14, 2006 at 00:56 #98427Always bad to ban people .. does it not depend who gets offended though, rather than what is actually said ?
I understand Diane was banned for slighting a hack ?
Did Peaty insult a Formosaurus ?
I’ve been insulted a quite a bit and no-one has ever been banned because of it .. perhaps it’s because I don’t complain ?

No it is purely what he said, you may want to read back on this topic and see the post which stated reasons as I was quite clear. ÂÂÂ
I understand your beef with TRF, moreso the problem you have with myself but the differnce is I have no hidden agendas, I know you are a very active supporter of a banned member but I don’t feel I need to justify anything to you as it is clear you have made up your mind on numerous issues and still have an axe to grind, just be careful how sharp you make it as you may cut yourself!
February 14, 2006 at 10:15 #98432Daylight,
I like this forum and have never had a problem with you, or anybody else for that matter. But I do think you have made a mistake banning Diane and think you should lift the ban and put things back the way they were before you both fell out. I mentioned this to him and he was warm to the idea but reckoned that you wouldn’t go for it. It’s not my fight but I think the way things have transpired you have both lost out !
I suppose you haven’t thought that the folk who support the ban are actually more active on other forums than they are on here, have you? Have you ever thought why they support the ban .. spoiling tactics ?
I am very supportive of the banned member but not at the expense of yourself .. the other posters on here who post over there as well, are not anti-TRF either.
February 14, 2006 at 12:30 #98434I understand Diane was banned for slighting a hack ?
He made (repeated) serious personal accusations against a member of the forum who happens to be a journo.
I woud be interested to see what would happen if someone made similar postings on Diane’s forum. Would the person be allowed to continue?
I think not.
Remember how often Diane warned posters that their comments could lead to TRF being sued for libel.
So, I can’t imagine he’d allow how own forum to be put at risk in this way.
So, why should he insist on the right to post in such a manner here?

Fair enough, thanks for your honesty but my personal feelings aside for now, the ban has to remain in place. I accept your opinion is that I made a mistake to ban him, as it was at the forums expense. Admittidley the forum did lose a prolific poster, but you can’t make one rule for one & one for another. The flip side you have overlooked is that numerous posters have returned and said to me their absense was because of the said poster. ÂÂÂ
He has openly admitted that he orchestrated the whole thing so where on earth do you think I should draw the line as I don’t taking banning people lightly?? Considering what he has posted just prior to his expulsion, and since, as far as I’m concerned "weighed in" was called a good while back.
I had no problem with Ian prior to his ban although he did sail close to wind on occasions but a PM exchange usually sorted this problem. I have however lowered my opinion of him after some of the things written since his ban but I want to continue to not lower myself or TRF to those levels by getting in a slanging match as although I certainly have a bigger audience I cannot see the point.
February 14, 2006 at 22:19 #98438DL, you never made any mistake and I’m glad to see you are standing by your decision, keep up the good work.
There has to be rules in running forums, if they are broken a ban is deserved, after all everyone that becomes a member ought to know the rules, if indeed it was a free for all then I’d have a few things to say about a few members but being the nice guy that I am I will abide by the rules as I wouldn’t like to be banned from anywhere. ;)
February 14, 2006 at 22:56 #98439Old ID seems happy enough mooching around bal, although I think a Jim Lahey avatar would have been a more suitable reflection.

February 15, 2006 at 01:22 #98441No arse kisser in that Grass just stating facts and I’m glad DL isn’t a soft touch.
Can’t understand all the fuss about Ian to be honest, why not bring all the cyber trolls that have been banned throughout the years back? I think not!
ps. by the way Grass, DL once banned me from the chatroom at one time so why would I want to kiss his arse? I only kiss female arse! :cheesy:
February 15, 2006 at 09:55 #98442This is all getting very tedious grasshopper, maybe you should be asking for the full story of Jim’s suspension before making naive assumptions of double-standards. Instead of me explaining past situations over & over again I think you should explain your agenda before trying to start a new, boring replica post to one already explained to Dave Jay.
I think some of you are very deluded in that I would turn over this ban after some of the plain spiteful and childish comments that have past since. ÂÂÂ
I refuse to get involved any longer with justifying it as despite trying to be as fair as possible with all members, I’ve found that certain people can interoperate events to suit their opinion and believe it to be gospel. I would love a pair of the blinkers that enables me to see what I want to see, where can I get a pair?
It’s hardly the first time a prolific poster has left and thought they would try to use TRF as a launch pad for their own personal interests, which seems to have been overlooked conveniently, should I really let people back on who made promise after promise they were not spamming and also made very libelous comments which endangered TRF despite asking to refrain??? If anything lifting the ban who be double-standards would it not?
February 15, 2006 at 11:23 #98443:old: leave it to the beards to sort this out I say, and I’ll take on the longer shaker.

If you consider this tedium White Knight I suggest you consider opening a bakery that produces crusts only then blitz the market with your own Pizza big crusty
GRACE AND FAVOURS
As for you, Jim out on a limb, possibly I am blinkered in seeing your avatar as protected in the lists. Jim only I read, which means you will retain your horse head forever
I am re-filling my teacup and this little computer only allows me to write in snatches…I will be back
February 15, 2006 at 12:35 #98444Don’t take it personally, Grassy. DL has had enormous amounts of grief on this issue – mainly deliberate provocation from the man himself – so don’t blame him for getting grumpy over having to repeat it all again.
February 15, 2006 at 13:00 #98445Gamble,
Storm in teacup?

February 15, 2006 at 13:10 #98446Appologise Grasshopper as the first part of my topic was directed at you personally and then I sort of started ranting in general at all who see fit to continue to question my motives when mine were nothing but genuine, as you correctly say my hand was forced, irrelivant of my opinions.
If I’m honest I still have a bee in my bonnet about a member posting my reasons here were not as published and saw this topic as a chance to get to the bottom of it but that person hasn’t choosen to pursue it, so I’ll just leave it.
