I find this a staggering decision.
There still exists on youtube a telephone conversation alleged to be between Mulrennan and Mark Dwyer. This is how the RP reported its appearance on social media:
http://www.racingpost.com/horses/jockey_home.sd?jockey_id=79371&topJockTabs=jockey_stories#topJockTabs=jockey_stories&bottomJockTabs=jockey_formAs far as I am aware neither have ever denied the authenticity of the recording. Apart from the deeply concerning main thrust of the conversation, the voices are heard to be extremely derogatory about a fellow professional (David Allan).
The BHA brushed the matter under the carpet in February, however surely RUK could show some understanding of how punters may receive the news that a jockey who was linked with alleged race fixing and bringing the sport into disrepute, is now to be an “ambassador” for their channel.
June 16, 2015 at 16:46 #1105865I agree totally with ivanjica I couldn’t believe it when I heard this news. Ever since the news about the telephone conversation was conveniently hidden by the powers at be in racing I cannot trust this jockey.
June 16, 2015 at 18:15 #1105881As you Phil Walker and Ivanjica do not know Paul you are both talking rubbish. Paul Mulrennan is a thoroughly nice hard working jock, rides a very strong finish and rides plenty of good priced winners, who does not deserve bad press by the thick media that thinks just because a jock vents his feelings over someone,he is crooked and bent. Dettori is a coke user and is adored by you, get your facts right. It makes my blood boil when I hear punters talking out of the back of their heads.
June 16, 2015 at 19:43 #1105894It sounds like you know Mulrennan personally, edfiggyrock. Could you be a little biased?

I agree that it seems ridiculous how Mulrennan and Dwyer’s very disturbing recording seems to have been totally forgotten by the mainstream racing media. It seems to be the way across all British sport that only those sanctioned officially get properly shafted by the media and public. England cricketer Alec Stewart, for example, admitted taking money from an illegal bookmaker during his playing career. That detail was overlooked when he was found not guilty of match fixing, but he is now a very powerful figure in the game.
I think RUK have made a very strange move here – even if you ignore Mulrennan’s dodgy character, what has he really achieved in the game apart from being a useful journeyman jockey?
June 17, 2015 at 15:52 #1106094Why do they need ‘ambassadors’ ? Get rid of all of them and cut the subscription price
June 17, 2015 at 16:41 #1106098Agreed Tony- I could not give 2 sh**s about an ambassador. Just put the racing on and cut all the people on it I am not interested in their views
