September 15, 2020 at 22:43 #1501655Sadly, confirmed by the RP. Pancreatic cancer is very tough to overcome. I hope he had some quality time with his family.
May he rest in peace!September 15, 2020 at 23:07 #1501664

Pancreatic cancer is the worst because by the time it’s diagnosed it’s generally too late to be saved.
A racing buddy of mine died from this at just 59. He was a very fit bloke and ran marathons and had climbed Everest. He had a very good job and lovely family and home and everything to live for. RIP Malcolm

RIP Pat Smullen ⚘Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...September 16, 2020 at 16:56 #1501707I find it impossible (genuinely) to watch any flat race finish at Galway without Des’s voice in my head exclaiming “And it’s another one for Dermot Weld and Pat Smullen!”.
RIP.
