Get this wrong more often than I get it right (understatement), but always like a bet in this Antepost, so as I’ll be following the yard again this year, took the 25’s on Iroko. Really like the horse, and think that’s a reasonable price, but not entirely convinced he’ll come here, and we could always see him next week instead. Small interest right now
Sans Bruit another I like and I’d expect him to get an entry, but not quoted at the moment
Iroko 25’s
Sans BruitOctober 28, 2024 at 09:13 #1711021I’m interested in Stage Star again this year
October 28, 2024 at 16:42 #1711082Can I ask you Vtc. How is it you go about choosing what to back in these big field handicaps months in advance?
You clearly have some level of success from time to time and I’m not for one minute having a pop.
But, it’s literally a total stab in the dark and you’re a total hostage to fortune for what’s even gonna turn up in the race unless connections state months in advance their intention to run a horse in it.
Obviously some horses season can be laid out for the bigger races. But the likes of the big handicap hurdle and chases such as the greatwood or the paddy power gold cup for example where you’ve already had a stab at something, this to me seems nothing more than hopeful guesswork. Or am I missing something?
October 28, 2024 at 18:34 #1711096Many of my Anteposts are for the sake of starting the threads. If I wasn’t on here, my Antepost bets would be drastically cut
As I said above, Iroko is just a small interest, just because I like to have one in this, and stick it up on here. I’d say it’s almost certain that he won’t run in it, and in fact I’d be more interested in his stablemate Jagwar, if he gets an entry.
I’ll usually highlight if it’s one I really like Antepost, and it’s a proper bet. I’ve only had two proper Antepost bets this season, Rohaan, Ayr Gold Cup, and This Songisforyou in The Cambridgeshire. Gets less every season.
I can have fairly serious bets at the five day stage, and I highlighted on my betting thread at the weekend, that Midnight Our Fred had been a bigger Antepost loser last week, but bigger Antepost bets are few and far between this far out, and I’d agree, it’s just madness before the entries are out (Rohaan was before the entries were revealed).
I’ll have bigger Antepost bets as the season goes on, but I don’t have any big Antepost bet open, and Ballyburn, Brown Advisory, and Minella Cocooner are the only one that’s bigger than the others (Midnight River a proper bet now for Newbury)
Hope that makes sense Tizz
October 28, 2024 at 20:10 #1711110Perfect sense.
November 9, 2024 at 23:27 #1712320Depending on weather I might go to this.
If Madara is declared then I’d be a player. 40’s at the minute might be worth a small tickle.
Heading to Ireland and giving top class horses a thumping at punchestown is still relatively fresh form. And despite being relatively disappointing since still young enough to get back on track at a course he enjoys!
November 10, 2024 at 00:56 #1712326Over this trip I like In Excelsis Deo who is a relatively unexposed six year old running off 10-04 with decent CD form to his name.
I’d like to take the 14/1 EW about him.November 11, 2024 at 06:13 #1712457In Excelsis Deo 12-1 ew 4 places

November 12, 2024 at 07:09 #1712500I thought I’d be coming on here firing in one that nobody had thought of
but it seems Ruby and Mike are both ahead of me. In Excelsis Deo is one you
take a chance with, he nearly always leaves a leg in one or two, but when
he gots things right, as in his run in April (2024) in a Grade 2 Limited
handicap at Cheltenham, he looks very good. He won that one going away in
a fast time. His last race in Galway in July, he ran like an absolute pig hitting
more fences than he jumped over. He eventually was PU. He’s owned by
JP and therefore could have gone to Mullins or Henderson, maybe they
would have sorted him out rather than Harry Fry. I’m not sure JJ Burke
is the man for him. He was still very much in it at Sandown in February
when JJ fell off at the last.I sound like I’m putting the kiss of death on him but I’m just pointing
out he has faults which need sorted. If it sounds like I’m putting him down,
I’m not, on the contrary I think he could be a Gold Cup horse, maybe a year
on. He’s only 6 and his potential is huge. Well done Ruby getting the 14s
and Mike taking the 12s, he’s best priced now at 10/1. I haven’t bet him
yet, I’m hoping some bookie or the exchange stick their neck out, but if JP
decides to have a bet his price could half. Watching him on the hour.Good luck chaps
November 12, 2024 at 11:31 #1712505Had a an ew 36.75 (with Hills rewards) on Madara. Hopefully Protectorat runs to keep his weight nice and low.
November 12, 2024 at 21:27 #1712517Interestingly; Madara has changed stables this week from Kieran Burke to dodgy Dan’s!
November 13, 2024 at 10:50 #1712540I would think that Ginnys Destiny will be too good for these, but at the prices I’ll be having a go on Ga Law and Fugutif. Both on workable marks and aren’t afraid of the hill.
November 13, 2024 at 12:50 #1712550Missed his prep though, and needed his first run back last season, which gives the others some hope.
November 13, 2024 at 20:41 #1712571Madara is a huge price for a young horse with decent course form.
November 14, 2024 at 12:04 #1712592As planned it’ll be Janidil as the main bet for me, with Il Ridoto as backup
Il Ridoto

(antepost, from earlier this week)
