Meetingofthewaters was one of my main horses to follow last year, and when he won this, one of my favourite races of the year, and I didn’t back him, I was a wee bit annoyed. Haven’t thought about it once since.

I’ve bet him for Gold Cup, which is highly unlikely, but even if he doesn’t go that route, I think he’s way better than this mark, and even if he’s a short price, I’ll back him this time (holds an entry in hurdle at the meeting)

Stablemates Janidil and Nick Rockett also very high on the shortlist. Janidil is a regular, and I was pleasantly surprised with how he coped with the National. Jumping would be the only worry. Nick Rockett looks just the type to win one of the bigger handicaps for Mullins this year too.

Also very interested in Riaan for Elliot, while Midnight Our Fred is on my radar for plenty this year.

This is a really strong entry as usual, and I could rabbit on about a dozen others, so I’ll leave it at that.

I usually like a decent Antepost in this, and if pushed to whittle down that early shortlist of five, I might just favour the non Mullins duo, but no money down yet

    Edit

    Final Decs in.

Determined at start of season to cut down on races with multiple selections, and stuck to it as much as possible

One of my favourite races of the year this, so have to add Janidil. Couldn’t cope if he won this race, and I wasn’t on

    Antepost
    Midnight Our Fred 25’s EW5Pls
    Nick Rockett 16’s

    Final Decs
Janidil 50’s EW (will top up if goes bigger)

Hgranca De Thaix + Will Do

Favour HDT, given he’s had a prep for this as it’s been a potential target since May. I like the angle of him going up in trip and i think he’s still got room off his mark.
Flanagan has a decent record for the trainer too.

Will do has decent bumper form, they didn’t mess about over hurdles very quickly into handicaps getting experience and while he’s only had the 3 runs over fences, i am hoping that hurdle experience serves him well. Off a light weight.

VTC – I think it’s a strange jockey booking for Nick Rockett
No chase experience under rules in one of the top three or four handicaps of the season ? Several of them have amateurs / conditionals in the saddle but Meetingofthewaters jockey has a 13% strike rate

Horantzau d’Airy has Paddy O’Hanlon in the saddle and there’s no way on Earth I’m backing him over fences on what I’ve seen…so weak in a finish and tactically suspect

About 2/3 of the jockeys in this race have ridden no more than one winner at the course in the last five years

Will Do has been gambled on and his jockey is 0 from 34 at Leopardstown – how do you back that at 10-1 ?

Didn’t bet much today so will have a few in this ew 6pl

    Favori de Champdou 33s
Prob would like softer ground but has a little bit of class too perhaps

    Klarc Kent 50s
Should like the trip, young jockey claimer has a couple of winers already

    Chavez 66s
Could’ve run over a shorter trip this week but gone here instead with a good jockey on. Bit of juice in the mark. Patrick nabbed him for the Kim Muir last year after his cousin wrecked Meetingofthewaters’ mark which says something I suppose. Jumping not always the best and this may be the wrong way round, but he might like this ground.

Not a race I like to go mad in, but it usually works out quite well with a view to future targets, so always worth a watch

Three Card Bragg has obvious claims and I’m sure Macdermott has scope off his current mark. I’ll have a small go on them for interest.
