As a regular customer of Paddy Power Bookmakers I think the company should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves for associating themselves with one of the basest forms of human entertainment dressed up as custom.

September 11, 2007 at 19:59 #114534Its totally upto people what they bet on obviously there must be a market or they wouldnt offer it.
Aint it upto the individual to decide?
September 11, 2007 at 20:04 #114535yeah I’ve also got an account with them and I’m not always comfortable with it. This is beyond the pale though but no doubt we’ll carry on Zilzal.
Perhaps tomorrow they’d like to bet on the colour of my knickers..
September 11, 2007 at 20:09 #114536I’ve never ever seen a bull win one of these so I would imagine it could be a profitable betting medium.
September 11, 2007 at 20:20 #114538I’ve noticed a few markets at PP being a bit distasteful, like during Big Brother when they offered odds on when the first fight would be and odds on someone being evicted because of racism (as it happened somebody was).
But as someone has already said, there must be a market for these type of bets and it’s entirely down to the customer to decide whether to get involved.

Okay, I’m a bit disappointed by my favorite bookie now. But the “insure bet” and “betting without the fav” markets remain unbeatable as long as no other bookie offers them…
September 11, 2007 at 20:43 #114546Insurance market and the distance bet for odds on shots and the live trebles in footie matches
September 11, 2007 at 21:12 #114549not quite david, the little fellas win the odd fight : http://www.metacafe.com/watch/479961/sp … d_by_bull/
or scottish style : http://www.metacafe.com/watch/315432/ba … r_matador/
when a bull wins fights like these they should get a month off but it’s a sign of the small testicles of spanish people that they gang up on the poor thing
it’s good seeing matadors gored to death, serves ’em fecking right
September 11, 2007 at 21:23 #114551How about a bullshÃÂt fight, where you get two paddy power representatives throwing hot fresh bullshÃÂt at each other for 90 minutes? winner being the one that throws up the least. (probably be a 0-0 draw)
paddy power would offer the gullible punter odds on anything, money grabbing barstewards!
September 12, 2007 at 00:11 #114563You know, it never ceases to amaze me that people can get on their high horse & slag off something & someone who takes part in that something that 1) they know nothing at all about 2) is an old traditional art form in the country it takes place in and 3) has the square root of bugger all to do with them in the first place & doesn’t affect them one iota. Incredible.
September 12, 2007 at 00:20 #114566it’s called freedom of speech, the right to have and express an opinion and the right to have likes and dislikes – are you suggesting people shouldn’t be allowed to do that if you find their opinions disagreeable SL ? – if you are, that really is incredible, as well as being hypocritical bollocks
if not, i apologise for misinterpreting your rant
September 12, 2007 at 01:20 #114567Old tradition smition, OK, lets keep the old tradition going, who’s up for going down the local farm and shoving a sword into a bull? if any of you are any good at it let me know so I can have a tenner on you with plastic power!
seems like fun eh? NOT!
September 12, 2007 at 07:21 #114578Betting the Bull is similiar to betting the hare to win a greyhound race

I spend 4/5 months every year in Marbella and see Bullfighting as part of their culture,it`s on local TV and well attended although the number of Bullrings are in decline, the one up the road from me in Puerta Banus as closed and others are following suit!
Paddypower have applied for Bookmaking licenses in Spain and have a Spanish website , it`s simply a part of their marketing strategy to be differant!!
I`ve never been to a Bullfight and i never intend in going to one, however, i wouldn`t go Fox hunting either or coursing for that matter……..The Brits and Irish are no better when it comes to Animal welfare!!
September 12, 2007 at 07:55 #114580At the end of the day we live in a, relatively, free market economy.
As such traders, in this case PP, make an offer to trade and the purchaser (thee and me) have the option to accept the offer to trade or not.
If enough people choose to bet on bullfighting then I am sure PP will continue to offer it, if there is insufficent uptake then I am sure the book will soon be closed and market forces will prevail.
As for boycotting a provider on the grounds of moral repugnance that is a matter for the individual and their conscience – there are some businesses I refuse to deal with on moral grounds. What I would never presume to do is try and persuade others to boycott said providers – at the end of the day we all have different moral codes.
Just for the record I do find bullfighting repugnant, however in the whole scheme of things there are far worse things happening that need addressing first.
