Usual strong piece by Brian O’Connor on this subject in his Odds & Sods column today in the Irish Times worth a read!

September 6, 2025 at 17:37 #1739514It was interesting because I do think they actually got the pacemaking about right as Kalpana was said to have had a good blow afterwards (suggesting that she was far from wound up for the race and probably would have been beaten further if they went faster) and it was noticeable in the last hundred yards that her stride was rapidly shortening as her lack of full fitness started to tell.
Interestingly, the tactics for Giavellotto was to actually track Kalpana but seeing how they were only going a modest pace early on and he stays much further they decided to sit second instead and to me that was the race winning move because that stamina kicked in around the same time Kalpana got tired and he was going away at the finish (which also helped due to the bumping he caused to Kalpana up the straight).
Have to be honest I didn’t really understand why she was at the head of the Arc market before the race anyway as whilst her King George run was very good, the form of her Fillies & Mare win at last season Champions Day (even though on soft ground) wasn’t much to write home about and I also think there are much better horses that she would face in the Arc than she did here today and the proximity of the fully exposed Meydaan in 3rd would be of concern.
Personally, I think a return to F&M race on Champions Day would be the race she has a more realistic chance of winning.
September 27, 2025 at 15:10 #1740740Once again disgusted by another Coolmore pacemaker who almost brought down the winning fav (I didn’t back it) when coming across him just after the start. I bet there will be no enquiry into that…..
September 27, 2025 at 18:04 #1740752Same depressing mantra from JCR with them rolling out the red carpet for the sockless drunks and the return of the dreaded”ladies day”,an affliction that’s now even hit Badger Day at Wincanton.
Disappointed to see Guy praise Aintree,a racecourse that’s handed itself over to the nightclubbing coke snorters.
I’m not sure the racing enthusiasts will be returning to the festival anytime soon. - AuthorPosts
