I normally have a trawl through the runners each week at the bush/picnic meetings at the weekends in OZ . Every now and then an interesting runner pops up .
This week a couple .Bulletin , winner of Breeders Cup Juvenile Sprint in 2018 . He won first three races in the States and has not won again . I see a few in behind him that day at Breeders Cup at stud now , he goes round at Nanango , he’s 9 kilos off too weight in ratings , 9 kilos off top in sprint at Nanango is pretty slow .
Albion Square , ran in Windsor Castle in 2021 goes through the dust in the desert at Bedourie , third of the circuit after Betoota and Birdsville . He went ok last week at Birdsville after finding a path through the dust from front runners . Still not won since Navan maiden few years back .
Birdsville races something very different , boxing booths , betting and rough rough pubs miles from anywhere .September 26, 2023 at 22:12 #1664554This weekend , Jundah races , 1100 KMs from Brisbane , dirt track , surrounded by dust and termite mounds . Population 2016 census 106 . Appearing in maiden race for his second start MacFarlane , lot 6 book 1 October Tatts yearling sales 2021 .By Frankel out of Emanently . Now gelding , Mick Price gave up on him after one run 11 of 11 at Pakenham in July .
Fair to say the plans didn’t pan out for winning bidder .September 27, 2023 at 11:25 #1664588“. Appearing in maiden race for his second start MacFarlane , lot 6 book 1 October Tatts yearling sales 2021 .By Frankel out of Emanently ”
110,000gns plus export costs to Oz 😬
Hope he breaks his maidenSeptember 27, 2023 at 21:07 #1664623I find this a really interesting subject area / thread.
Please keep updating us Hellcatmudwrestler , if that isn’t too time consuming.September 27, 2023 at 22:26 #1664625Thanks Coggy , I have looked through the bush tracks for years just out of interest so takes no time .
Had a look at Jundah last night on you tube , it seems best plan is find the lead early or eat dust . Got to get the rails and have couple lengths on them turning in , seems to work most times there .September 28, 2023 at 10:22 #1664645As said a very interesting thread. Thanks for posting HCMW
September 30, 2023 at 23:07 #1665081MacFarlane 9th of 9 .Still not beaten a runner home . Was beaten 16 lengths first up on poly , 18 lengths on dirt yesterday , might be try on turf next .
October 5, 2023 at 05:55 #1665653Night of Power goes this weekend at Gordonvale , near Cairns , 1700 KMs from Brisbane . In the Gordonvale Cup , also in the field is Olympic Korchnoi who was second in the Brazil Derby a few years back .
Night of Power won three times for John Oxx between 2017 and 2018 , he’s done well in middle range handicaps for a few years in Sydney before being sold up north and not the horse he was anymore . Gordonvale looks a nice little turf track .
Bulletin is in on the dirt at Dalby also in Queensland but is on the ballot and needs three to come out .October 5, 2023 at 11:20 #1665669I used to bet quite regularly on the Oz. I do value my early mornings though these days but when I have more time….
The $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) trophy remained in Queensland with Tony Gollan’s undefeated filly Skirt The Law putting a street on the Sydney raiders at the Gold Coast. Skirt The Law was brilliant off a big break winning the 2023 Magic Millions 2YO Classic very impressively.
The festival is in January (Gold Coast racetrack) and the Magic Millions who are a big breeding sales unit put up circa $13 mill in prize money.
One of my relatives lived on the Gold Coast and was married to a big Brisbane bookie. He (the bookie) used to come over every four years to Europe and buy the latest Porsche. That’s going back five decades.I have lost touch now, but rather regret not making a trip over there. It is on the other side of the world but reachable !
October 5, 2023 at 21:54 #1665739Gold Coast currently racing just on AWT as the turf course is completely re built .
They had a promo event on beach day or so before this years MM race , two horses lost their jockeys , ran off crossing tram lines , went down busy highways past cars and ended up down a residential street few kms away unharmed .October 5, 2023 at 23:07 #1665750Of interest and I was once a novice on a runaway horse on a highway which had been in frightened by the noise of a rattling bicycle being ridden unseen behind a hedge and took flight.
The 60 million dollar investment is for three new tracks and a training facility.
‘Melbourne Cup day 2023 is also set to be a significant day on the Queensland racing calendar.
The Gold Coast turf track, out of action for a much-needed rebuild since last racing on the rescheduled Magic Millions day on January 19, is poised to swing back into action on the day of Australia’s greatest race.
Gold Coast Turf Club chief executive Steve Lines has revealed that Melbourne Cup day on November 7 or potentially Victoria Derby day on November 4 were planned to be the first meeting racing on the new grass track.
It may be the case that all races on the comeback day could be raced on the new grass track or the races could be shared between the existing poly (synthetic) track and the new grass track.’
October 6, 2023 at 07:53 #1665765Good old Aussies about as decisive as the rugby team.
We’re coming back on the seventh but maybe the fourth.
Welcome back anyway!!
Good thread👍.October 6, 2023 at 10:08 #1665776Jamie Spencer riding West Wind Blows at Flemington tomorrow , he has outridden the home jocks a few times in OZ . Hoping he does same tomorrow , Romantic Warrior from HK will be tough to roll though .
McFarlane back in Tuesday as well , this time on turf at Barcaldine .He looks a lost cause but trainer has the faith , if you cannot win a maiden give up and jump to handicaps , worth a try I suppose . Gut feeling is it won’t work .
Looked up Barcaldine according to one website it’s most famous resident is a Tree !!!October 6, 2023 at 10:27 #1665784Thanks once again HCMW.
October 7, 2023 at 07:21 #1665885I thought this thread was about progeny of The Derby winner in 2014 who liked to be held up – imagine my disappointment.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"October 8, 2023 at 01:01 #1665998Outback runners , best out the back runner this weekend was Gold Trip , drawn car park , flew home , as theh say in OZ and NZ ” brained em ” in Turnball . Imho Jamie Spenser was superb on West Wind Blows , trapped bit wide , realised early pace slow and rolled forward without burning too much gas then settled WWB again in great position , unlucky to meet Gold Trip in red hot form .
As for Gordonvale Cup , Brazil bred Olympic Korchnoi got head in front , dodged the vets knife in HK but the Ozzies got his bits off and hes on the winnibg trail again .Night of Power midfield .
Bulletin got a run at Eidsvold , went out at 21 s , midfield . Theres somethibg still left in him , he could nab one at odds .October 9, 2023 at 07:08 #1666071Mcfarlane on the drift already early doors , 31s 51s now 61s , i think 61s still bit skinny .
A TAB betting meeting so it is live on Trackside TV , iam looking forward to seeing this mighty son of Frankel live .
Rest of field 185 starts for 13 wins so hes up against some class . -
