Does anyone know what David Pipe has planned for Our Vic? Ive not heard alot mentioned so far this season regarding where his targets lie….
November 27, 2007 at 15:57 #127431I thought I read somewhere he is out for the season with a "Leg" although I might have that wrong
November 27, 2007 at 16:01 #127432Sorry it was My Will not Our Vic

He is entered in the king george
November 27, 2007 at 16:22 #127434I believe D E Pipe has planned another season of frustrating dogging for Our Vic- causing odds compilers, punters and David Johnson alike to tear their hair out as he goes!
November 27, 2007 at 16:35 #127436I think I read that he got a stone bruise (or something similar) last week hence why he missed the Betfair but he should be ready for the King George.
Whatever you think of him, is it right that a staying chaser of his class has never been allowed to run in a Gold Cup?

Does Stan Collymore know?
November 27, 2007 at 16:58 #127441I dont think Our Vic is quite up to Gold Cup standard. I would have another crack at the Ryanair. The race at this years festival, the way he fought back from the brink was unbelievable! Hes one of my favourite horses and that was one of my favourite races, just because of the guts Our Vic showed. As for the King George as his first race of the season….no chance. I think Kauto, Exotic and even Racing Demon would mop him up on his reappearance race.
November 27, 2007 at 19:22 #127469Our Vic is a nutball take it from someone whos tried at length to work this horse out.
Very talented though and goes best fresh. If he runs first time out in the King George I seriously wouldn’t be surprised to see him go very, very close.
November 28, 2007 at 00:14 #127516I know I’ve already said that I want to see him in a Gold Cup so it will seem like I’m contradicting myself here but he seems like a pretty versatile horse so does anyone think that he would be worth a try over 2m from the front?
I remember him putting up a very good weight carrying performance in a 2m hurdle one day earlier in his career and maybe he would have gone down that route initially but for Well Chief…
November 28, 2007 at 00:24 #127518Paul, I think your musing over all sorts of varied possibilities for Our Vic tells you everything you need to know about the horse.

Actually, perhaps he should be tried over 5f, least possible time for him to take the huff!

Just my opinion, but the horse hasn’t run in a Gold Cup because connections know he wouldn’t stay the trip at that level. He was out on his feet in the Sun Alliance over shorter and against novice opposition, won an uncompetitive Charlie Hall half a mile from home by virtue of his superior class and fitness, and was beaten 2 out in both the Cotswold and the Betfair Bowl.
The sharp 3 miles of the King George could be his optimum trip nowadays, though he has not run right handed since jumping left, in his novice days, around Ascot.
As Flash says, he is also better fresh.November 28, 2007 at 08:55 #127548To me, there’s a certain irony to this thread with certain individuals suggesting that connections are avoiding certain races and others bemoaning the fact that the horse has never run in a Gold Cup. It’s quite a departure from the usual rhetoric about the Pipe stable over-campaigning their horses.
The fact remains that Our Vic has run at the last four Cheltenham festivals, with March arguably his best effort – a half length beating by Taranis (in receipt of 5lbs).
I really don’t think this horse or conenctions owe the racing public anything.
November 28, 2007 at 08:57 #127549Considering that Denman is going for the Lexus, MWDS still has it to prove he’s a top chaser outside novice company, then Our Vic must rate a cracking bet for the King George at 70 on Betfair. Imho, he’s a 170 animal who goes best fresh, flat track should suit.
November 28, 2007 at 09:34 #127553A note of caution regarding Our Vic in the King George could be his jumping. He jumped markedly right in the Reynoldstown as a novice, and he’s been kept to left-handed tracks since. Ironically, he’d raced exclusively right-handed previously.
November 28, 2007 at 09:54 #127557Some interesting oppinions on Our Vic actually. Will be interesting to see how well he does in the King George as he has never really raced against the very best before, and like people have said, its his best trip and he goes best fresh. 70 on betfair? e/w on that might be worth a punt!
Which brings me to my next D Pipe question…….whats the plans for Well Chief?
November 28, 2007 at 10:58 #127576Well Chief goes for the Tingle Creek I believe…
November 28, 2007 at 12:38 #127600I noted timeform have him down as a squiggle horse now but he’s still the 3rd highest rated chaser on their ratings.
I have to say that i thought i had his measure as i’ve won more money on him than any other horse but i’m not sure now.
i thought it was a great performance to give neptune collonges 12lbs in the charlie hall, who later ran 4 fantastic races culminating in a grade1 win and i was positive he should have gone for the King george and then gold cup.
His defeat in the cotswold chase i thought was due mainly to sulkiness rather than not staying, as he seemed to down tools far too quickly after hitting the 2nd last. And in the ryan air, i layed him for the first time, adamant he would be outpaced in the last couple of furlongs by much speedier rivals and instead he puts himself out the back for half the race only to decide he’d like to race in the last half mile, coming out at the weights with much the best performance!I just don’t know.
