Would tend to take the view that winning the Arc on the back of such a tough campaign is a great credit to the toughness and durability of Dylan Thomas (built like a Panzer) rather than an example of how "easy" it is to win the King George and Arc in the same year myself!
Don’t want to get in to the age-old trainer argument Clive but, as far as Ed Dunlop is concerned, the adage ‘one swallow doesn’t make a summer’ comes to mind.
October 8, 2007 at 18:34 #118557Just because Dylan Thomas won after a long campaign doesn’t mean it’s easy. As Alastair Down said today in the Post, he’s the first horse in 35 years records have been kept to run monthly in April to September to then win the Arc.
As I said earlier, it is a superb acheivement by Aiden and Ballydoyle to keep him sweet all year. But how many top middle distance horses run in April? There can’t be that many who are seen until May at the earliest.
October 9, 2007 at 00:02 #118614He’s been on a carefully plotted group 1 sweep up campaign.. The Horse is a machine.
October 9, 2007 at 07:16 #118622i wouldn’t worry about our classic form when outsiders like youmzain can put away the entire field of the french arc bar one – does that also make this a very poor arc ? i was waiting for the thread to start ‘a poor arc and dylan is a plater’ – guess we’ll have to wait for the guineas before the next thread of that ilk to appear
