I didn’t have a punt in the Ces, but am incredulous that Murtagh has escaped sanction for not riding Oriental Magic out for a place.
Is there a reason nothing has been done? It was pretty blatant.
October 12, 2013 at 23:40 #454755Oriental Fox did get a bump from the winner as she drifted right while making her challenge then he seemed to falter a little before JM stopped riding, perhaps he felt the horse was not quite right at the finish.
Unbelievable race by the winner, left at the start, on the far rail boxed in for most of the race at the back end, only starts to make moves 4 furlongs from home and comes right round the field to the middle of the course to challenge and win. Never won beyond 12 furlongs and this her first win of 2013. Mark Johnston ‘Man of Mystery’ pulls another one out of the hat.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...October 13, 2013 at 12:45 #454801Sorry but Oriental Fox would have come a safe 5th if the jockey could have been bothered to ride out.
I don’t understand why its so low key. Jockey throws away e/w punters money on a highly fancied runner in the richest handicap and one of the UK’s biggest betting heats.
October 13, 2013 at 14:49 #454821Frankie has been doing this as long as I can remember. It’s like they don’t want to use up the horse getting into third place after giving their best to be first and failing.
October 13, 2013 at 15:27 #454822We’ve been talking about Oriental Fox on the Big Races thread. One to watch for next year given that way he ran under so much weight. I can’t help but feel that connections realised that Scatterdice had a better chance than seemed apparent [am I allowed to say that?].
October 13, 2013 at 15:33 #454823Prize money for 5th (£5,825) was twice what it was for 6th. I doubt Murtagh or many of his colleagues would be concentrating on attaining 5th for punters who’d bet with bookies paying out on it. Most jocks would have only – at best – a vague awareness of that offer when riding.
A reminder from the stewards pre-race would have been no bad thing, given the contribution betting makes to racing.
