Mr Henderson said before the race that OM would definatley not be a triumph hurdle horse. Was he hinting at anything before?
I thought that the ride from Barry G wasnt that good at all. He amerged next to the winner and he didnt kick him on. I dont know much about OM, but just wondering if anyone knows the tactics of it? Does it like to get infront late on? Does it find anything?Much Appreciated All

January 31, 2009 at 18:59 #207347Another one to criticise the ride of a jockey because the horse didn’t win.
Geraghty gave the horse a superb ride, had it well positioned, came to join the winner two out just couldn’t go past. The horse just wasn’t good enough, didn’t have enough pace, Geraghty can’t give the horse wings.
January 31, 2009 at 19:02 #207348He sweated up a fair bit beforehand and he was very free early on. Barry gave him every chance but the horse just wasn’t good enough.
January 31, 2009 at 19:11 #207349Ian, im not critisizing him terribley. Just i thought he could of done a bit more?
January 31, 2009 at 19:19 #207352Did you ‘steam’ OM Tony?
I think Ian is right, he put in a position to go and win but it wasn’t good enough. Don’t under estimate Amore Mio, OM had to give him weight and in truth the form of OM’s Newbury run is pretty superficial as it stands
January 31, 2009 at 19:21 #207353Yeah, fair comment. The fact was that i dont know how OM has to be run. Amore Mio’s second to Zaynar is not to bad but fairplay to E Lavelle.
January 31, 2009 at 19:25 #207356I actually thought that amore mio was the most likely winner of the race anyway, so the result isnt that much of a surpirse.
February 1, 2009 at 01:03 #207410My father backed him, the usless starved dwarf rode the horse like he out riding too sunday school, forgetting that the ground was heavy and the hose was having too give weight away…
February 1, 2009 at 01:04 #207411I’d add to the previous explanations that it was pretty tacky at Sandown today, and the ability of horses to quicken away late on was commensurately tempered in many cases.
Amore Mio handled the prevailing conditions marginally better, exhibited an absolutely terrific fighting spirit, and was receiving weight from the second.
I honestly don’t think there’s anything more to the matter than that, and I certainly wouldn’t cite a lack of effort from Mr Geraghty.

February 1, 2009 at 01:07 #207413Wel the jockey wasnt that clever, I think if he had put he horse in the race earlier he would have gone allot closer.
Mind you I am not a fan of juvinile novice hurdle races..

"Put the horse into the race earlier" He was prominent most of the race wasn’t he, never far behind the leader, how was he not put into the race?
February 1, 2009 at 01:12 #207415The riding tactic of chasing the leader on Optimus Maximus today was broadly the same as on his winning debut, so with the best will in the world I can’t see any case to answer on that score, either.

The horse wasn’t exactly powering home at the end of the race had he been asked to assert off the bend (assuming the horse was going well enough) he quite possibly wouldn’t have got home then there would’ve been complaints that Barry Geraghty had gone too soon.
February 1, 2009 at 01:21 #207422Sorry but this complete and utter pocket talk. Geraghty gave this horse every chance he was barely ever more than a length off Amore Mio, they were completely level between the last two flights and he had EVERY chance to go by. He made an absolute mess of the last flight and allowed Amore Mio to land a length up. In the end the best horse on the day won simply.
February 1, 2009 at 01:26 #207423Pocket talk or not if i was the owner I would be telling Henderson too find another jockey for the horse.
February 1, 2009 at 01:30 #207426I can’t believe the stuff you are coming out with here yorkshirepudding. I’m pretty sure Nicky Henderson would treat your comments with utter contempt.
Learn to take defeat graciously my friend.
