I recently came across a rather unusual story from last year while searching for something else. Coincidentally, it links into some of the concerns raised in this week’s Panorama investigation, as well as revealing a little bit about some other things that go on in racing.

The story revolves around The Tartan Spartan, who was sent for slaughter after his owner decided he had broken down. Despite this, the horse eventually made it back onto the track, although not before an court injunction was issued which ended in a legal battle.

Quite a strange story but at least this horse is still alive and still racing!

Thanks for posting this Green. What a strange story. There’s a copy of the judgement online, and even after looking at that I still have all kinds of questions! But, yes, it’s excellent that The Tartan Spartan did not end up being slaughtered :-)
