So as the excitement reaches a crescendo, what race are you most looking forward to? What horse are you itching to see?
I'd like to live in a place where they cordon off swans...March 9, 2015 at 15:46 #820796It has to be the Queen Mother Champion Chase for me. Is Sprinter Sacre back to something like is best ? Or will Sire De Grugy prove last year wasn’t just a one off ? Or will Dodging Bullets confirm this seasons form ? or will Champagne Fever run yet another great race here ? So many questions ………..
March 9, 2015 at 16:06 #820831Yeah that’s definitely an exciting one for me, as I’d imagine it is for most people. There’s part of me that will be thrilled if SS can spring back to his old form, but another part that would be jumping up and down if the Preston family havd another magical day. Mouthwatering stuff!
Apart ftom that, I’d love to see the Fly come home in front again (Corm, we need a ‘fingers crossed’ smilie!)
What’s always great about the festival is that the best moments will probably be unexpected ones. It’s exciting to know that the script hasn’t been written yet. Anything can happen
I'd like to live in a place where they cordon off swans...March 9, 2015 at 16:10 #820847I would loev SS to win but I have backed Champagne Fever so its going to be mixed emotions!! HEART OR POCKET
March 9, 2015 at 16:49 #820947Hey Missus …I hardly sleep at all on the eve ….as Im playing poker all night ……..the Arkle is the one that I await the most
Have fun in London

Good luck with the poker! Online or the real thing?
I'd like to live in a place where they cordon off swans...March 9, 2015 at 17:23 #820993We get the chance to see if Faugheen can take rank as the successor to Hurricane Fly at the top of his division. That prospect excites me most about tomorrow.
Financially it is all about Ptit Zig in the JLT. I decided to take a stance with him early and went in at 10/1, with the added hope that Vautour might head elsewhere. That hasn’t happened and it wasn’t very nice to see Ptit Zig fall last time but I feel he’s got a great chance to convert those who “haven’t taken to this horse.
The Gold Cup is intriguing this year, with so many ifs and buts. It seems reasonably certain to my eyes that a new champion will be crowned but which one? If you can’t look forward to finding that out, you are in the wrong sport.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
March 9, 2015 at 17:41 #821016Gold Cup for me. And the 2016 version, where I’m backing Vautour and, because of Tommy’s unshakeable faith in him, Don Poli.
March 9, 2015 at 18:13 #821046Cheltenham – my racing Haj !
Most looking forward to : Douvan ( is he the next big suoerstar as the Mullins team believe ? ) Faugheen blitzing the field to victory in the CH , The QM Champion Chase ( fascinating contest ) , the return of Annie Power , and Silvianaco Conti leading the Gold Cup field a merry dance .

March 9, 2015 at 19:15 #821088Probably no more sleeps for me. I’m like a kid at Christmas and won’t sleep tonight because of the excitement. Usually do a 20-odd mile walk on the Monday to make myself tired but due to the weather could only do about 14 today. Looking forward to Faugheen hoping he can blitz the field, the QMCC and hoping Conti can complete his already impressive CV.
March 9, 2015 at 19:26 #821105Looking forward most to Coneygree….looking like Gold Cup now so that will be the race I look forward to most…
Champion Hurdle 2nd and the hope that The New One can silence all the doubters and lower the colours of the hotpot Faugheen…
Most of all, I look forward to hopefully hearing after the last race on Friday that all horses came back safe and sound! There’s no thrill like the Cheltenham festival, winning anything can only be looked on as a bonus, I would gladly lose all week to know all horses and jockeys came through unscathed….
Bring it on!!
March 9, 2015 at 20:00 #821169Good point. It’d put a damper on the whole thing if we had any fatalities. Here’s hoping……

I used to be like that when I was working The Grand National the following day. It was by far the biggest day of the year for us and you saw so many people you wouldn’t normally see the rest of the year.
I always had difficulty sleeping and the copious quantities of Vodka didn’t seem to help. There was all the anticipation of calculating the running on money by hand in those pre-computerised till days where settling had to be done by hand and money running onto other horses calculated on a race by race basis. There was also the unknown problems that would arise from novice gamblers who needed tons of help and who invariably made a cock-up somewhere, as in the case of the 1996 National won by Rough Quest, where a woman had somehow managed to stick a fiver each way on Foinavon. Asked where she had got that one from she replied “Richard Pitman said it had won the race before and I thought, well maybe he’ll do it again”
Someone else had a bet on Shergar in 1998, after being the victim of a prankster who had told him he was different class and only had to jump round to win.
Sadly Cheltenham never quite had the same buzz in my shop, it was amazing how many of my punters didn’t like the meeting because it was too hard to find winners and it was sort of embarrassing having to dig around for early odds on some odds-on shots at Sedgefield for those Philistines. It was still a sense of excitement for me but not the Sleepless In Smirnoff nights of the National.
If, having read this far, you are not yet drowsy, you must have it really bad. Sleep tight and dream of Faugheen jumping hurdles.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
March 9, 2015 at 22:20 #821393Not what you want to hear on the eve of the Festival.
Boyfriend has just announced he is taking me on a surprise day out to London tomorrow – ‘you said you weren’t doing anything this week’ he says. Trying hard to smile and appear grateful but I’ll be desperate to get back without finding out any results so I can replay ‘live’ all the action.
The Champion Chase is the race I’m most looking forward to, I would love to see SS back to his best but heart says SDG. As long as everyone is home safe, that will do for me.
March 9, 2015 at 22:43 #821437I’m in London for two days, so I’ve got no chance of missing the results I’ll only have to pick up a Metro on the underground…..

No pressure then
Haven’t backed him for that myself but he’d be at the forefront of my thoughts for that race!
