This Sunday at Haydock…..
https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/23/haydock/2020-07-05/761014
Potentially very strong field here, but not for the first time, my attention is focussed on Euchen Glen.
Very nice winner of The John Smiths Cup two years ago, and from then on in it was all about The Ebor. Unfortunately he picked up an injury, and he missed the best part of two years.
Seriously good comeback at Doncaster though, he looked in full working order, and it immediately got me thinking of The Ebor again, and the 40’s is tempting for that race right now. I’ll wait and see what he opens at here, as I suppose he could bounce.
Another who I like is The Trader, he was very impressive at Newmarket, though he does hold other entries at the weekend.
Frankuus, Harrovian, and Nicholas T are interesting, but if they both went, this would see me double handed.
Waiting now for prices.
Euchen Glen
The TraderJune 30, 2020 at 01:21 #1492199Priced up now…..

Quite happy with the prices for my pair, and both jocked up, but haven’t bet yet.
June 30, 2020 at 08:36 #1492213Ranch Hand at 10s (EW) interests me even though rarely play AP had a few bob on and will get stuck in again if declared to run.
Looks like there will be enough cut in the ground for himGood luck VTC
July 1, 2020 at 11:45 #1492316le don de vie and country ew both 10s at present i think
July 1, 2020 at 12:07 #1492319Ranch Hand 10s is the bet of the weekend for me.
Form beating Trueshan is very good and travelled very well into the Ces until tiring (didn’t stay).
July 3, 2020 at 11:20 #1492526WH. Priced up day of race market took a bit more 7/1 12345 1/5 odds Ranch Hand
July 3, 2020 at 12:36 #1492534Good luck with Ranch Hand guys.
Both of mine make it then, but if being honest, I’d have rather just the one got there.
I’ll go with both though, and happy that the prices have held.
The Ebor is still hopefully the main target for Euchen Glen, and questionable whether winning this would benefit him for that race.
Can’t split the pair of them here though, and I might just go The Trader for the win, and Euchen Glen EW
July 3, 2020 at 13:17 #1492543My ratings have this race very close across the board and it looks as fiendish a handicap as there has been to crack since the return of racing after lockdown. However, top rated on back form, one horse has a potential to provide a shock and that is the Mark Johnston trained HOCHFELD.
Hochfeld was very keen on his return to the at Royal Ascot after a year lay-off and dropped out quickly in the latter stages. It’s reasonable to expect that race to have brought him on and his proximity to Baghdad in a race at Newmarket last May would put him in with a decent shout here, particularly with a few pounds drop in the ratings.
He hasn’t won since 2017 but has gone close on a number of occasions and is fairly adaptable as far as going is concerned. He’s 33/1 with a number of bookmakers and should be significantly longer on the exchanges.
Of the main fancies I have to agree with our resident ‘big handicap safe cracking genius’ Venture To Cognac with EUCHEN GLEN. This one has excellent form over a range of distances and put up a very encouraging performance upon return at Doncaster.
July 3, 2020 at 14:27 #1492550I did like The Trader for this also, but all his form on decent ground and its currently soft with more rain to come. So you want a mudlark.
July 3, 2020 at 16:25 #1492552I’m interested in Hochfeld as well he’s dropped half a stone from a career high mark and didn’t have a lot of racing at all last season for one trained by Mark Johnston so presumably he’s had his issues and would have been more than entitled to have needed his run at Ascot, a first start in over a year where he was pretty fresh on the front end and wasn’t given a hard time by Fanning once he was beaten. I don’t know much about the claimer on board but taking 7lbs off his back effectively gives him the least to carry here and if he does retain much of his ability he’s entitled to go very well in a race his trainer has won 3 times.
Respect most of the opposition its a tough old handicap as you’d expect.
July 4, 2020 at 19:00 #1492766Still haven’t bet here yet, and I share your concerns Mike, for the ground with The Trader.
I’ll definitely bet Euchen Glen regardless, but still all about The Ebor with him.
Starting to come around to Frankuus now as well. Have to make my mind up soon.
July 4, 2020 at 19:25 #1492772Ashamed to admit that I missed the fact that one of my ‘North On the Level’ horses to follow is entered in this race. Roger Fell’s ANYTHINGTODAY ‘ran into one last time’, fits my favoured ‘Fell quick returners’ pattern and is plenty good enough to get in the mix here stepped back up in trip.
Two selections are:
Hochfeld: 40/1 Paddy Power & Betfair
Anythingtoday: 25/1 Paddy Power & BetfairJuly 4, 2020 at 19:57 #1492775Big fan of Anythingtoday in this, especially after Sky Defender franked the form today. Seems to stay the trip, might back one who’s likely to come from further back just in case there’s a pace collapse, although Spanish Archer was my idea of fulfilling that role and he’s a non-runner.
July 4, 2020 at 20:39 #1492783Im with you kev, 7s today was good enough, will love the mud! Having a good bet on this
July 4, 2020 at 21:41 #1492798I’m another one for Ranch Hand here. I think that he looks incredibly hard to beat.
July 5, 2020 at 08:20 #1492837I will throw a dart at Babbo’s Boy ew 5 places.
July 5, 2020 at 10:30 #1492855I’ve played euchen glen e.w as there’s plenty value there, I believe there aiming high with a possible tile at the Melbourne cup so he,ll need to go close today
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
