It would be a reasonable spectacle for the Olympics yes, but you really couldn’t justify p#ss guzzling blokes with monsterous guts as opposed to those who are supremly fit and train their guts out.
Have you watched any darts since 1979?
Mike
You going to tell me they are fit
Number 2 mate they may drink water on screen but i can see plenty of beer guts,so what is your point? I get all the games live, loved it when the p#ss heads kept chanting ‘Jesus’ to the aussie onlooker and the organisers kicked him out saying they didn’t want ‘one’ person spoiling it for the players and crowd:)Classic! tanked up p#ssheads chant and take the p#ss out of him and they probably kick one of the only sober people out:):):)January 4, 2013 at 11:22 #425195It would be a reasonable spectacle for the Olympics yes, but you really couldn’t justify p#ss guzzling blokes with monsterous guts as opposed to those who are supremly fit and train their guts out.
If ever there was a sport that demanded hour upon hour of tedious, repetitive training – practice would be a better word – darts is it, being a game which demands the utmost dexterity and coorordination
A close analogue of darts that’s been an Olympic sport since, I’d guess, its inception are the myriad shooting events and I daresay some of the participants have beer bellies too
One should not necessarily equate the athletic body-beautiful with ‘sporting’ prowess
Archery too, another ancient Olympic pursuit, is essentially dart-like though that admittedly does require the development of taut upper-body musculature
If, like me, you believe that Olympic sports should be confined to individual pursuits more-or-less derived from pastimes that in days of yore were not necessarily just trivial sporting diversions but contributed to survival and sustenance then darts (think spears, arrows, blowpipes) rests a lot easier within the ‘olympic ideal’ than do the ever-increasing number of team-games permitted that involve doing silly and trivial things with a ball
Running, fighting, swimming, strength, agility, riding, throwing, dexterity…yep
January 4, 2013 at 12:37 #425207The problem with darts in the Olympics is that it’s a very regional sport. It has very little popularity outside of Northern and Central Europe (unless you count American-style darts, which is something entirely different) and the sport is heavily dominated by players from the United Kingdom. The PDC would have to work harder on getting worldwide interest in the sport. Even 9-ball pool is more international.
That’s not quite the case, there have been decent 501 players from the US and obviously Canada (3-time world champ John Part). Eastern Europe has played darts for many years and it’s played everywhere in Australasia (world champion Tony David & other top players) and South Africa. Also has a hugely increasing profile in many Far East countries
But yes, it’s not football (ie. soccer!!)

January 5, 2013 at 06:09 #425321It is not a ‘sport’ Drone it is a game of skill. You wouldn’t like the chances of some of these ‘hunters’ catching much, maybe the scent of Burger King or McDonalds!Shooting for a period can make you tired physically, darts on the other hand is about as draining physically as chess.

Sorry, but that is total nonsense. The long matches one finds in major tournaments require immense concentration and are incredibly draining.

January 5, 2013 at 14:37 #425383Try playing darts for 4 hours in your local – your arm will fell like its dropping off.

Where is the nonsense? I said darts is not physically draining, mentally yes.Even throwing for a few hours is not what you call hard.Try swinging an axe all day or being on a jack hammer, now that is physically draining.People who work office jobs can be mentally drained by the end of the day but it is not a physical job, like darts,so that is my point.
