Thanks, Tonge. It remains to be seen how good the form actually is, but it is a crazy Derby Meeting when looking at the weather.
Let’s see what happens tomorrow…May 31, 2024 at 17:05 #1696282Ryan Moore interviewed said Ylang Ylang didn’t handle the track.
May 31, 2024 at 17:30 #1696286Great pick Ruby 👏 Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...May 31, 2024 at 17:34 #1696287Thank you, Jac. You weren’t too far off with your dance Sequence EW at 20s. Hope you still made a small profit. Not a bad day for the Dubawi progeny which gives some hope fro Ancient Wisdom tomorrow.
May 31, 2024 at 17:38 #1696289Well done Stilvi and all the other winners (including place winners Jac and Erl etc).
Spare a thought for me though Stilvi.
I went one better (worse) than you. Backed the winner ante-post and then when she went for a walk in the market…
To limit liabilities on the race (with other bets) I laid her back at a worse price. What a mistake to make.Still, she ended up a saver bet for me and did have a good result in the Corry Cup.
Value Is EverythingMay 31, 2024 at 17:46 #1696290Certainly wasn’t a great Oaks, but the winner is improving and won well… Could yet make up into a top class filly. Second could do better if her temperament holds. Third was caught wide throughout so worth adding a couple of lbs to her performance… and not many of the rest ran to their bests.
They didn’t seem to go that quickly early – not sure what Rossa was doing on Fairy, having a staying filly that far back… Ditto Coolmore / Lordon dropping out Rubies. The fillies with speed came to the fore at the end, bar Ylang Ylang. Track is used as a convenient excuse when a horse fails to produce the goods.

It applied to both AOB Brien fillies today i think. Whether either would’ve won on a conventional track today in any case is another question.
Law of averages one of his colts will handle the track tomorrow and win as AOB not picked up an English classic win yet and I can’t remember him being empty handed after 4 English classics in recent times.
May 31, 2024 at 17:59 #1696295Looked to me like Ylang Ylang didn’t stay, having also struggled with the course but I am sure Ryan knows better.
Glad to see Weld get another good horse. Always seems like a bloke who would be good fun in the pub (which is largely how I judge people!). I liked how he told someone that the filly wouldn’t kick during his post-race interview too. Not sure every high profile trainer would have that sort of knowledge of their horse’s non-racing traits, let alone share it during an interview on national TV.

It is possible she doesn’t stay this far, Ryan Moore just said she wasn’t travelling well enough at an early stage for that to come into it, when the distance question was asked.
May 31, 2024 at 19:27 #1696312What’s the opinion on Dance Sequence?
She has ‘ran green, wandered and hung’ in her races to date, but is clearly talented. Do we give her the benefit of the doubt – until she runs on a more ‘conventional’ track, at least – or is she starting to look quirky?
This guy is a machine. All he does is work out and pick winners. Talk about fit. You should see him without his shirt off, serious side of beef.
May 31, 2024 at 19:55 #1696321I would definitely be giving Dance Sequence another chance. Out of this race it would only be the first and second I would be looking forward to.
The things I want most in life are the things that I can't win.
May 31, 2024 at 20:43 #1696337Winner is very good. Dance Sequence will be much better on a different course. If they meet again at the Curragh I couldn’t call it. Would also be interested in Ylang Ylang back to mile and a quarter.
May 31, 2024 at 23:29 #1696353Thanks Ruby Yes I did make a profit by getting the 20’s early.
After that performance I would give Dance Sequence the benefit of the doubt John_Anthony. I just think she doesn’t handle galloping into a dip before an uphill finish. Same thing happened on the Rowley Mile. She is however improving with every run so get her back on a flat surface and she’ll show us what a top class filly she is.❤️
Wonder if they’ll all meet up again in The Ribblesdale. Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...May 31, 2024 at 23:58 #1696357Newmarket does have undulations, but I haven’t seen many wander like Dance Sequence has and to do it in both the Guineas and Nell Gwyn… And that today was even worse. imo Probably more than becoming unbalanced on an undulating racecourse. Temperament issue there that I’ll have to take account of when assessing the price I’d take about her. If she has just a 1 in 3 chance of throwing a race then that logically means she’s less likely to win. If I do make her value /back her it’ll probably be only as a saver – not a main bet… And usually with this type I’m far more likely to oppose her in the market.
Value Is EverythingJune 1, 2024 at 01:45 #1696372Ylang ylang was beaten far too early for it to be the trip that got her beat
She comes off the bridle very early in her races
I’d wonder how much effort she is actually putting in
Suspect the issue is mental not the trip or track
June 1, 2024 at 11:16 #1696423“I would be very surprised if Dance Sequence didn’t rate higher than the winner come end of season. She has yet to venture away from HQ, and it would be interesting to see her not only stepped up in trip but compete on a flatter track. Was she looking for a reason to duck behind the winner, or is she still displaying immaturity? I’m willing to give this scopey filly a chance and think the potential is there to compete at the business end of Group 1s before seasons end.”
I submitted this analysis in the ‘Nell Gwyn Stakes’ thread. Reading the respective opinions on her after the Oaks illustrates what makes this sport so fantastic. I’m willing to give her the benefit of the doubt until the final viable excuse is exhausted, which is a less idiosyncratic track. Although the Nassau has been mooted – Goodwood, blood hell !!
