I know its not a strong field but its a good handicap to discuss.
Most winners have come under 9 stone in this and a poor record for prominent runners. I always think the pace is too quick up front in these big fields but being held at the rear can cause traffic problems, so tracking to midfield have a great record.
although a bit high in the ratings this looks good for Blue surf as long as the going is atleast soft.
November 3, 2014 at 19:40 #494432Saying that alot more horses have ran with less than 9 stone so i dont know if thats a trend to follow
November 5, 2014 at 18:05 #494574I have taken a chance with First Mohican who had good early season form and may just have been aimed at this
November 5, 2014 at 22:53 #494585Dashing star
at 16/1 for me a half brother to the very useful
Barshiba
,I like a C/D runner in these big handicaps, particularly one with form on all types of ground,a mark of 98 suggests he’s one of the better horses in this renewal and one who could make all from the right draw.Sadly his strike rate is poor but granted Soft ground I think he’ll run a place.
November 6, 2014 at 07:38 #494593I keep going back to Dark ruler and think will be there abouts.

Fancy Dark Ruler’s stable mate Aramist. Should love the conditions and won’t mind if it turns into a slog.
November 6, 2014 at 19:08 #494644I’ll take a pop with
Farquhar
, as a horse coming into the race in form and on the back of his best ever performance.
Only three, he seemed to surprise his trainer last time and at 40/1 he was part of a 1-2-3-4 at huge odds, which yielded a twenty grand tricast for those lucky enough to have picked the leading trio.
Normally you would worry about the form but three horses have come out of the race and won next time.
In a suicidal cavalry charge the normal level of caution is exercised but there will be worse bets than 12/1 on Peter Chapple-Hyam’s contender.
Knowing my luck his berth in box 5 will mean the winner comes from box 20 plus.
Farquhar 12/1
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
November 6, 2014 at 21:04 #494656The last 10 winners had an Official Rating in the range 93-99 and the last 9 winners had not won at the level previously.
Of those that follow thsese trends Dashing Star takes my fancy.
Good luck !!
November 8, 2014 at 16:18 #494776David O’Meara just won the November Handicap by half a furlong!
The horse had more scope to improve than most, but was still relatively exposed. How on earth does he do this?
November 8, 2014 at 17:58 #494780…by half a furlong…under Danny Mudhope
November 9, 2014 at 09:34 #494797I gave up on open eagle after being loyal for a few races after the last november handicap! Something i need to change in next years betting. Dont get too attached or dis attached with any horse

I wonder what that win will do to his handicap mark? He may be left with a rating that makes life tough at handicap level.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

If
Open Eagle
goes up to a mark of 109 Steve you can safely say he’d win off a mark of 100 should he encounter the same conditions next year so a campaign like this seasons will just about ensure that

Open Eagle has risen to 104 on the back of his romp, I think that will prove difficult for him when he isn’t running in gutters at the fag end of the season.
I can visualise the preview comments for his next race where "big improver" is writ large and punters get all excited about "That horse who p155ed up at Donny"
Empty wallets and full satchels anyone?
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
November 13, 2014 at 15:57 #495031Open Eagle has been bought to race over hurdles for Willie Mullins and surely that looks a good move with his flat rating having reached the level it has.
Should be an interesting recruit and he’s entered the Supreme Novices betting at 33/1.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
